Picked up the new to me Charles Daly model 700 20 ga. These guns were produced by Miroku , from '63-'76. Supposedly a typhoon destroyed all records.
Anyhow, my Blue Book does not list a Model 700. It is just about an exact copy of the Browning shotgun of that vintage.
However if you search it online a few are listed on the auction sites. An image search shows the same as what I have. Miroku made other models for C.D. but again almost exact copies of the Brownings.
Oh and I spent about half what I've seen the online sales are going for!

Yes I really need to clean off the bench!

I found a site that explains how to tell model to model by the top lever spring. So this weekend I'll pull the butt stock, scatter the guts out and do some figgerin. As far as I can tell this is an early gun.
Sent those pics to a friend, he had a CD years ago but not this model.
The information was helpful last year in identifying one of the rare small frame 28 gauge models. Leroy Wisner has a ton of other useful information on his website. It's worth bookmarking his page and reading into the various subjects.
Bottom line is you may never find out all the minute details about your specific gun. You may have to settle for only knowing it's a new-to-you old 20 gauge over and under that's late 60's to early 70's Japanese manufacture, and in my opinion way more classy than any new Turkish shotgun.
I found the page you are talking about, very informative.
The heritage of this would be nice to know but it's not really necessary to me. This gun has been carried enough to wear some blue off the underside. I'm just going to show it some new fields!
Finally got to removing the stock this morning.
Original BC MIROKU recoil pad, it's hard as a rock and the toe is cracked so I ordered a new pad.
Whoever had this gun was diligent about cleaning/ lubrication. The thru bolt fortunately is a slot/hex head, had to use a 14mm socket as the slot is wrecked.
The trigger guard screws are buggered. If people only used the correct turn screws!
With the butt stock off I found white grease, I assume it's the old Lubriplate lithium grease, the remaining has yellowed some but it is soft! All the internals are spotless so I wiped off the remaining grease( none of it on parts that need grease). I then put lube on the parts, pins, pivots that need it. Reassembled it and worked the action a couple dozen times to get the lube into the action. Everything loosened up nicely so I'll shoot it this bird season and come spring I might re blue it.
