Congratulations to him. That looks like a fine example. Some beautiful country there too. What kind/caliber firearm?

Levergunner, it's a 300 Win Mag he built on a m700 action firing 215gr Berger Hybrids on top of H1000 powder. That gun will lay them into an MOA all day long.

Pretty cool...!

Those elk antlers are so huge - my son brought back a pair from out west, and I really wanted to take them back in our Indiana woods and situate them under lots of leaves so just one tip stuck out, then take one of my friends 'shed antler hunting'. I'd make sure he wound up seeing the tip and investigating... :o

That .300 Win Mag has a muzzle brake. I'll bet his ears are still ringing.

That's a lot of very fine eating right there, Walt. I greatly prefer elk to deer venison. My youngest brother has killed a bull the past two years in northern Colorado where he lives. Has a tag again this year, but is focused on the new bird dog -- a Brittany pup -- that is about to join the family. 8)

I'm glad to see you're back in good old New Mexico, Bill. I wish you the best.

BTW, High Desert Hunter lives in the Las Cruces area.

Thanks, all. I hope to see him in a few days. I will relay all the congratulations to him.

He's in a remote area well away from any cell signal but he texted me a few lines when the signal drifted in. He said it was a 350 yard shot, the elk didn't take even one step but dropped where he stood. The shot destroyed both lungs and clipped the spine.
