The AK rifle - from truck gun to collectible...?

Post by AJMD429 »

.
It seems like 10 or 20 years ago you could get the guns really cheap for a couple hundred bucks or so and the ammunition of course was cheap as well. Then the surplus foreign stuff was cut off and you would think that because of that the cheap clunky guns would have become boat anchors, but I'm seeing them at gun shows for 1800 bucks now. So if you buy one you're going to spend a bunch of money, and then have to spend even more money to feed at ammo...!

I thought about selling my semiauto AK for the huge price markup and using the thousand dollar profit to buy 5.56 for my AR, but the pendulum always swings back and forth, and I have at least 500 rounds for the thing so I figure I'll keep it for trading purposes if nothing else.

i combined forces, i shoot russian ammo in an AR. Doc, i figure if we get to the point where we've exhausted our 556 and we're still breathing, there should be enough laying around to resupply.

Bout 20 years ago I bought a WASR Ak for $300. It was okay. Accurate enough, reliable, no complaints except that I had some serious trigger slap. I shot a couple thousand rounds out of it and swapped it off.

I had an SKS, that I swapped between me and a few friends for about 10 years. I miss that one. It was an early Norinco. It shot great. It was stone reliable. I got stupid and traded it, that and another gun, for a Winchester 94 with a crossbolt safety no less.

Funny that they are going for an arm and a leg now. SKSes are good little guns.

I only have one AK left, with about 8K rounds for it. Number 2 son is left handed so he is a big fan of the AK rifles. I'm amazed at the money their bringing now! Even the Century and Wasr guns are up there.
