I have a Winchester 1892 made by Miroku. I have a Marbles tang sight for it, but I'm not thrilled with the appearance of the elongated slot for the rear screw. Did Marble always make the 1892 sight this way? If not, when did they change from a normal screw hole to an elongated slot?
I don't think there can be another explanation other than Marble's wants that sight to fit other lever actions as well as the model 92 or maybe the screw spacing is different on the Miroku than other model 92s.
I have sight number 009808 which they state as for Winchester models 53-55-64-65-1892 (original)-1894.
Marble Arms lists sight number 009802 for Miroku made 1892s that have the tang safety.
My gun has been converted from the rebounding hammer and safety, to half cock notch and had the tang hole welded up by Turnbull Restoration. They supplied this sight with my gun.
I just installed an Improved Model Marbles windage tang sight on a Win 1892. This is a New Haven original manufacture gun. I cannot post photos so all i can do is list the parts. And explain in words. It is necessary to dis-assemble the base and re-assemble with the piece the holds the upright reversed. This is easy, there are no ball bearing or springs that go loose. This result is a proper 18 degree staff angle with good hand clearance. No custom work. Plug and play with a screw driver. NO SLOTTED HOLES.
Just to be clear, the sight base is flipped around with the upright closer to the front. With NO SLOTTED HOLES. The Windage screw ends up on the left and the little base that holds the upright is flipped around. It will look just like Post #1 but the windage knob will be on the left side an NO OVAL SLOTTED hole. None. My staff is shorter. The Improved sight takes any of 4 staff heights. Dont sweat the height.
Sight Base 991015
Screw Set 995003
Short Upright 990100
Edit:
Almost forgot my windage knob is pretty stiff. I will leave it to break in, but others may want to do a little polish and watch for any loose chips or dirt. Fair warning on that Give it a try, i am sure you will be satisfied.
2nd Edit:
The Op's gun is an older Miruko, pre tang safety, which used the correct hole spacing and this solution would work for that. I am not sure about the screw set. Consult with the Marbles application chart on that. Or measure your screws. Or ask Paco.

I have a number of Winchesters equipped with Marble's tang sights, and none of them have the slotted screw hole. If I were you I would switch to the un-slotted base just because it looks better!

it is nice to be able to post photos. I dont have that luxury. I am sorry, I forgot to clarify my sight recommendation does not have an oval hole. I just made an edit in big cap letters. I am trying to help the OP even if its a year later. But I screwed up my post and I do not have a hosting service or website to store my photos. The sight windage is moving nice and smooth now. Nobody cares, there are no pics.
Now all shasta does is post a photo. That is cool. I wish i could do that. I could skip a lot of words. He does not say what Marbles sight he mounted on his Winchester 92 or older Miruko 92 with Winchester hole pattern.
I was motivated as a way to say thank you all for help with hand loading the 32-20. I know, I sound like a jerk. I hate looking bad like this. But, this "no photos" is too much for me to deal with. I am sorry its a great forum but just not for me.
