Colt SAA 2ND GEN Hammer unfinished

Post by Pat C »

Came across this the other day , I like interesting items.
The hammer is hardened and blued and has had its roller and firing pin installed with retaining pins peened and above surface. The sides show the Blanchard grinding pattern . Hammer is oversize about .007-.008" wider than normal to allow for the final polishing of sides.

Another interesting thing is the notches are all unfinished . I guess they custom fit them as final steps. They are about .010" undersize

This Hammer is fairly hard at 52 HRC and is of the later medium carbon steel through hardened.

Kuhnhausens shop manual has several various completion hammers. I saw this one and immediately knew it probably was one. It was cheap too, most people thought it was a reblued with poorly done pin install.

But when you look at an original finished hammer , pins sanded flush , sides polished to bright metal with bluing on back and front.

This is fully usable ready to fit 2nd Gen Colt SAA hammer.
But the history part I like more.
