Most accurate bullet in the 92??

Post by Johnnyjr »

What are you guys finding to be the most accurate bullet in your 92s with the 30 twist.
Cast or jacketed bullets?. And at what muzzle velocity are you running. I'm still trying to get a good load for deer hunting. No doubt it will be close range. Thanks for your advice or suggestions.. Johnny p

Hornady XTPs have shot real well for me in 92s, revolvers and auto pistols.

I see the twist is 1:30 in .357 and .44 Magnum, but a friendlier 1:24 in their .45 Colt carbines.

Although I was the one who asked what cartridge, I can’t say I have shot enough 357 magnum out of my Rossi to make any claims about accuracy. (Lately I mostly shoot 38 special out of it because it is so quiet, and I’m not actually hiding with it, but more commonly dealing with a raccoon in the chicken pan or something like that.)

I do recall using up to 180 grain bullets JSP flat-nose in my Marlin 1894 Chambered in 357 mag without any evidence of tumbling out to 75 yards, but I honestly don’t recall the twist rate in that gun. My main concern was if that profile would feed through the action, but it did.

It is strange how so many of the manufacturers put a ‘modern’ twist rate on 45 colt, but not 44 magnum or 357 magnum.

One of many reasons that 45 colt is at least in theory, better than 44 magnum out of a lever action rifle.

Both my .357 mag Rossi carbine and rifle do really well with Zero 158grn JSP with Lil'Gun as that's my go to bullet for bowling pin shooting even at 300 yds.

In my 357 rossi it was actually a 38 special +P factory load. Remington factory UMC 125 SJHP.
In my 44mag its Hornady 200 and 240XTP's
I dont fool with cast loads much
