Now see if the original intent of the 2nd was followed (civilians having weapons parity with the government) we could all own them. Seems to me that if it's a 30mm tube and a 50mm objective that you'd need something just a bit over 20mm.
Any manufacturer website should be able to provide specific measurements as to the height of their rings versus just a description of low, medium, or high.

Interesting, disappointing, and somewhat alarming. American Eagle is pretty much the only .357Mag ammunition I've used for the last 20+ years and I've never had a single problem. Not one. Hog (and liberal) skulls might be significantly thicker, but if you could find a part with about 3/16ths inch bone in two places, about 8 inches apart, packed in between with bologna or ballistic gelatin ( use dog poop if simulating a liberal ), that would be reasonable I would think. Try a different carry to accommodate the expected discomfort.
If you can't carry IWB, try OWB, if you don't like the print, try a belly band or a shoulder rig.
They all fit somewhere.

I have three firearms in my "nightstand", so it's really whichever one my hand hits first.
For this exercise let's just say I grabbed the S&W Model 36. Once out of bed and feet are on the floor, three steps from the bed is an 870 riot gun with 00 buck.

If you're shooting west your bullet will travel with an increased velocity. The closer to a pole you get, you'll start shooting low.
Conversely, if you're shooting east, your bullet will lose velocity more quickly, and the closer to a pole you are the higher you'll shoot.
