Re: Nice little levergun writeup
Fine article except the silly bit about only someone as skilled as Jerry Miculek being able to get 10 rounds off in 6 seconds with a semi-auto. In the Marines we had a closing drill, failure to stop on three targets advancing on you from 7 yards. I think it was around 2 seconds before they made it t...

I live in the desert in WA, no trees for miles and I agree long shots are for the most part a myth. I've crawled for hours before to get up close to deer and other times just sat real still until they moved toward me. I was going to say I could see longer shots in the planes states but the above pos...

If the concern is just 'legal', then you could get around that by selling them the gun with first rights for buyback. Wont fly in Washington. They've made it illegal to sell/transfer a gun without going through an FFL and filling out the paperwork even temporally. Even still, the few people I'd be ...

I like the Speer Plinkers in a .308 carbine for a barn yard load. The lead is so soft those bullets all but disintegrate nearly eliminating the chance for a ricochet (though not completely negating it). I'd like to say yes but I have to agree with COSteve. Here in Washington a law was recently passed making the loaning of firearms (even to extended family) all but illegal. Frankly I think it's stupid but it's the way things are now days.

I'm curious. Please describe your Model 99. Is it a "safe queen," or have you owned too briefly to make the time to shoot it? Shooting off hand or most field positions my 1895 Winchesters (carbines so they have the forearm held on by a barrel band) are probably close enough I couldn't tel...

That's a tough question with a lot of variables. I have old leverguns and old bolt guns that to my knowledge have never needed repair. But those guns were carried a lot and shot little I suspect.
