What's the best way to take a gun photo?
Seems like an art to me. Some pictures here show good detail and the full lenght. I can't seem to figure it out. Do you stay back a distance and zoom in to fill the frame? How about lighting? Maybe outside on an overcast day. Bright lights don't work for me.

Re: My tastes in lever guns is changing
Although I have a few, I've never been fond of carbines. It's hard for me to shoot a deer though the hart at 100 yards with one. Also the looks of a lever rifle makes me smile.

Re: Article: The .45 Colt Lever-Action As A Hunting Rifle
I shoot a lot of 45's. 45 acp. 45-70, 45-110 and three 45 Colt pistols and Now a 45 long Colt Uberty Special Sporting rifle. The 45 Colt fed many of the early Westerners. As a bit more of a challange, I think it's a worthy task. A 270 and a scope is to easy. The 45-70 was the task last season and it...

I've been hunting now for fifty years. Last season I figured out how everyone but, me could hit the broad side of a barn.................For me at least, I climb in and shoot from the inside. I agree in Northern MN a 30-06 just might be the best all round caliber for white tail deer. I don't own one...

Their site says $3,300 add checkering it's $3,600. At Buffalo Arms the Pedersoli is $1,997 add the sights, it's under $2,500. I didn't say '' thousands'' I said a thousand. I'm sure the Shiloh is worth every penny.

Re: Sharps rifles
I love my Pedersoli Quigley 45-110. My son and I shoot together at 600 yards and hit a 2'x2' gong target almost every shot. The gun is beautiful and has no issues at all, never did. It is a thousand dollars cheaper than Shiloh, there must be a differance and I'm too dumb to see it. Your going to lov...

Did Browning make there own production runs of the ones originally manurfactured by Winchester? I know they do a '86 and I think a '95. I know John Browning seems to have invented just about every good gun back in the early days of cartridge repeaters.

Re: I'll try , but I'll need help with the levergun list.
That '94 on the bottom has quite a history. It had gone through a fire at a Alaska gun store in '64 or '65. I bought it at an auction as a lad 0f 15 in 1965 in Anchorage a year after the earthquake. I'm not sure but the quake may have been cause of the fire. It had no blueing or case finish. The sto...

I'll have to read up about those guns. Looks like I have a lot of reading. Usally I buy the gun first then read about it.
I guess when you go to 22's there are a bunch.
Keep it comming and when we're done , I'd like to see all of these in chronological order.

Re: Stop me from butchering my Marlin 1895 Cowboy 45-70.
I shoot my 45-110 Quigley compressed loads with the '' cresent '' without a recoil pad. But that's blackpowder and weighs 14#. The Marlin does have a bad recoil with stout hunting charge and 410 grain bullets. I think I'll keep the butt plate it came with.

You know you guys are good. I think I'm going to leave it alone. I already have guns with the other elements and the 45-70 is a meat gun. In the years and generations down the road , it will have the charm from what it's done. Last year was the first year of hunting for it and it did three whitetail...

Is this a problem? If I drill and tap for a front screw, will it strip too easy?
I don't find any offered, but there are some for "66's. I think they are the same.
I'd like a tang peep on my Navy Arms Henry 44-40.

I like this gun, but I wish it had a crescent but plate. a thinner forearm, case hardened and a cover over the bolt or a square bolt. I quess the round one is stronger, but it ugly.
It's still a great gun. Oh what it could be.

Re: OT - Been doing a little reloading...
I'm not having trouble getting it around here in Northern MN. I use Goex FG and FFG. I shoot 45-110 Sharps and some 45 colt BP.
I like your ammo. I don't have much in 38. Maybe that should be my next mission. I've been limiting the BP to the single shots. I didn't want to mess up the lever guns.

Re: OT-Remington model 8 or 81. Have one?
This spring I bought someone's grandpaw's Model 8 , 30 Rem. at the local gun shop. They had four from someones colection. I chose to buy the 30 even though it's obsolete cal. It's perfect. I didn't think I needed to reload for it, so bought two boxes of ammo from Buffalo Arms for $80. I sighted it a...
