IIRC, the 165 was the original bullet weight as it was considered the "best" but later tastes, a need to compete with other brands such as the .303 Savage and so forth they moved to the 150s and 170s as "standards" although other weights in specialty loads were sold.

There are several instances of years between a number being applied and shipped. In one instance a .32 WS was built on a first year receiver.

Hobie,,,, the friction ring has a steel ring between the recoil spring and the friction ring. It has a bevel one side and is flat the other side. The bevel side presses under recoil the friction material harder onto the magtube, this setting is for heavy loads and actually the felt recoil is worse ...

You are worried because you don't have a suitable pistola in that rig. I coulda sworn you had such a gun but that's not what's in it in the photo. That will balance it out and make it safe for the cattle to look at.

J miller Brand new can of powder Charge was way too low ,I found out later Hardly any recoil when it blew, thing I noticed was the flash. More recoil on the first 5. So not too much powder, too little. I weighed every charge and visually inspected powder level in each case. May not convince you it ...

I would want to know the specifics of the load, i.e. primer, powder, charge and bullet. Some people seem to think things are identical when they are not. They never did well at the kindergarten game of how is one thing not like the other.

I have used Speers, Sierras, Hornadys, Winchester PPs & STPs, and Remington CoreLokt. One is about as accurate as the other and all will do the job. I do believe that the old Sierras (those that were .307") would penetrate more due to the smaller meplat but they also gave about 100 fps more...

30 minutes north of Harrisonburg, VA? Well, welcome! I'm 30 minutes south. There's a range on the National Forest off US 33 but I think it is on the WV side. There's one indoor range on the south side of the Friendly City, Top Gun.
