That makes sense. And it’s a real problem that we have put our military into a situation of shortage as well.

Re: Thinking about a new press
I’ve got a Lyman torrent press that is very similar.
I use it on only rare occasions. Almost everything I load is done on my Dillon 550.
I have a little RCBS press that would take up much less space and I seriously think I may go back to a single stage as little as I use the Lyman.

Re: An old experiment that I need to get back to
The idea is not original to me. I saw an article that Brian wrote right after the Ruger factory.44 Special Blackhawks came out.
He started off shooting 100 rounds of the same load (240 gr XTP and 19 gr of H110) through his test gun before doing accuracy tests.

I much prefer fixed sights on a using handgun. If it is set up right you don’t need adjustable sights.
My Wylie Clapp SP101 rear sight had to be glued down as the set screw simply wouldn’t hold it in place.

I really like the lanyard loop.
I’d like to find a set of original wood grip panels for the Speed Six.
The Pachmars are comfortable but too large for a revolver of this size.
I also intend to go back to wood factory grip panels on the Redhawk.

Re: An old experiment that I need to get back to
Good question Joe and my answer is probably more speculation than facts. I shoot a lot more cast bullets every year than jacketed. Most Rugers will shoot jacketed bullets well out of the box and some will also shoot cast bullets well. Some won’t. Sometimes it is a dimensional issue that can be resol...

Re: An old experiment that I need to get back to
As I wrote previously, I was unable to get good groups with my Skeeter loads. But there was nothing I could point to dimensionally that would make this gun not shoot. I took a page from fellow Shootist Brian Pierce and fired 100 hot loads with 240 gr XTP bullets through the bore. Now it shoots the S...

These bullets are sure easy to load on my Dillon press. They seem to line up on their own and there’s no build up of lube in the dies.
I’m loading up a few hundred to see how they perform at distance with my sixguns and carbines.

What you practice becomes what you are good at. When I shot Cowboy Action I always shot the left gun with the left hand and the right gun with the right hand. Part of that was conditioning myself to shoot well with the left hand so that in a situation that went bad and my right hand was injured/non...

I tried crossdraw when I was a police officer working plainclothes and it is really handy in a car. But I found that it was better for me to pick one position and stick with it. For me, that’s just behind my right hip bone. Generally in a Bruce Nelson Summer Special. This is not your question, but w...

I think the 86 was more popular in some places than others.
You don’t see a lot of these rifles in the hands of Texas Rangers for example. But there are some.
For example one of my Texas Ranger relatives clearly has an 86 in his hand in this photo.

If your throats are too tight you can ream them out yourself by renting a reamer on line. I’ve done a few and this is easy and difficult to screw up. Or you can just send the cylinder to a number of places and they will ream those throats for you. https://singleactions.proboards.com/thread/34523/lub...
