Re: Visited Buffalo Bill's Grave
I was just over in Cody, Wy to the Buffalo Bill Historical Center two weeks ago. I have been trying to make it over there for a decade now. The place is very impressive and the guns on display number in the thousands. I think I snapped around 200 pictures. They also have Teddy's 1895 on display. It'...

Here is my scoot. Just a slightly modified Harley Rocker C. Nothing too fancy, just 105hp with two wheels. It's getting repainted this winter as the current doesn't do it for me. Trying to get some riding in before the weather hits here in South Dakota. http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/dd430/mihu...

I have only seen one 1886 win in 38-70. A military buddy has one that came off the family ranch in Montana. The buttstock had a small black mark on it from a cabine fire long ago, but other than that it was nice. He also had a few boxes of factory ammo for it.

I usually carry a Randall #15 or #1 when out hunting. The #15 has 3 tours to Irag and 2 to Afghanistan. Are they cheap?? No. But I don't collect them either. I use mine often. On that note, my dad gave me an older Gerber fixed blade that he bought on his way back from Vietnam. That knife has cleaned...

My dad had a 1895 Cowboy blow on him a couple years ago using FACTORY remington ammo. To be honest, the threads are very thin. I was surprised to see that. He was lucky and was not hurt, but Hobie is right. When they blow, they all look the same. In the end, Marlin offered a replacement rifle. He de...

The story is likely propaganda, with some truth thrown in. So far, it is highly unlikely to have gone down as written. One theory is ...

Having a background on firearms training and maintenance (USAF Combat Arms) I can tell you that barrels erode even in slow fire. My dad and one of his friends hunt with 45-70 Contenders with 15in barrels (not ported) with M2 Aimpoints on them. Kicks like a darn angry mule, but gets the job done. The muzzle flash at dusk will blind you. I know of a few that tried to tame that gun and ended up eating the scope.

I might mention two things I think are most important. #1, most safes that are sold are really security containers. Real safes cost more, weigh more and work better. You get what you pay for. #2, you will need 2 to 3 times the size you think you'll need for what you have now. If you're going to add...

Bill,
No problem. As a matter of fact, I have the rail on my stainless 1895 Guide. I did like the setup at first with a Leupold scout, but the gun was just too darn heavy for me. Most of my shots with the 45-70 are less than 100yds, and the irons are pretty fast for me.

Bill_Rights You can fit the rail to the gun as it is tapped, but I don't care for it myself. In the near future, I will be adding either the XS ghosting or set from Brockman's. I prefer to mount these instead of optic's as I am still a good shot with iron's. Down the road I am sure that will change.
