I have only seen one 1886 win in 38-70. A military buddy has one that came off the family ranch in Montana. The buttstock had a small black mark on it from a cabine fire long ago, but other than that it was nice. He also had a few boxes of factory ammo for it.

My dad and one of his friends hunt with 45-70 Contenders with 15in barrels (not ported) with M2 Aimpoints on them. Kicks like a darn angry mule, but gets the job done. The muzzle flash at dusk will blind you.

No problem. As a matter of fact, I have the rail on my stainless 1895 Guide. I did like the setup at first with a Leupold scout, but the gun was just too darn heavy for me. Most of my shots with the 45-70 are less than 100yds, and the irons are pretty fast for me.
