Re: OT-Perks of Being Over 50
You can get "senior" type discounts on meals at some places . And you can talk/reference about things as they were during the "last century".

Re: Anyone fortunate enough to have an Icon CJ3B
Aaaaah, Jeeps :). Had a 1973 CJ-5 that I bought brand new last century for $3750. That was before the first oil crisis. Basically only came with the driver's seat and the other seats were extra. It was equiped with the factory 304 V-8, and other things I did with it included: * adding a full metal c...

Re: Range Report Win. 1886 and 500 Grain Bullet
Nice clover leaf you got there, CR :) . There's a couple of my range buddies that also shoot 500 grain 45-70's out of their Sharps rifles with tang sights too. At 100 yards it makes a nice "thump" into the backstop. At 200 yards, there's a nice pause after they shoot before it "thumps...

Re: OT - GI's shoulda been issued .270's !
Logistics is a big problem with large armies. But wouldn't the GI would have fared much better in WWII and Korea with a semi-auto .270 Winchester or similar rifle? John, I would answer both and yes and a no to your question. I would say "yes" because of all of the reasons you listed in th...

One time my wife and I had invited my Mom to come over for dinner. It was stormy day and dinner was half way done in the over when the power went out. I got up and said that I would go set up the camp stove in the garage in order to finish cooking dinner. Both my Mom and my wife replied that it woul...

Wow really nice project there John. I definately like the "aged ivory" grips better than the tan ones. No disrespect but the tan ones look like the grips on my Daisy six shooter BB gun (snort-chuckle). And your holster in addtition to having the cylinder bore addressed certainly adds a nic...

Hey John,
Now that's simple yet effective. I'm still at the bucket version of primer catching evolutionary stage .

Re: What causes vertical stringing??
And if the manner the shooter has shouldered and gripped the rifle is not consistant, one would realize a changing whipping motion with each shot. Another possiblity may be due to the action having come loose in the stock which would also result in a whipping motion of the gun when fired.

Re: Ultra sonic cleaners for your empty brass...
Hi John, Yeah, I made sure the one that I got was a moderate size so as not inspire the wife to get any mega size jewelry. I haven't done the necessary research to guestimate how many cycles I can run the brass in my HF cleaner priior to physical failure. Anything we physically do to the brass does ...

IMO, you are one lucky person. I too remember reading about these a long time ago last century. I was very fortunate about three months ago to have had the opportunity to shoot one of these chambered in .308. For me it was one of those life experiences I always wanted to have just because.

Re: Low recoil shotgun?
Last time I fired my Pardner 12 gauge it left a huge purple and black bruise on my arm (didn't know it until bath time - darned thing wouldn't wash off) so I'm thinking about having a second barrel made in a lighter-recoiling gauge. 20 gauge comes to mind but some have said recoil is about the same...

Saw it with my youngest daughter when it first came out. Both of us really enjoyed the movie. You know you do when you're so captivated by it that you don't realize how much time has gone by and that your butt had gone numb due to sitting for so long :). Hope any sequeal is just as good if not bette...

Re: 50 BMG at the range.
Hey TedH, You got my curiosity going here too. Do you know at what yardage your load goes subsonic? Quite possible if that transition point is somewhere between 50 and than 100 yards, your realtively flat nose type projectile could be experincing some major turbulance causing your 100 yard groups to...

Re: 50 BMG at the range.
Hi TedH, Your quest for better 100 yard accuracy reminds me of my experience shooting .32 S&W Long semiwad cutters versus wad cutters. Always got good accuracy with the wad cutters at the closer range, but always got better accuracy with the semiwad cutters at longer range. Maybe the same case f...

Doesn't take too long to dry with the now warm/hot weather we have. When I take the just cleaned shells out of the cleaning device, I plop them down on a towel and then do quick rub shake down like if you where doing a bunch of just washed eating utensils. Then I leave them out to finish air drying....

Re: Ultra sonic cleaners for your empty brass...
Yep, today I cleaned 598 (yes I counted them all) .45ACP casings and it did a really good job, especially the primer hole and the inside of the casings. I used only warm water because that's what the instruction manual recommended. Plus I didn't want any casings flaumbaay by me using any VOCs. The b...

Ultra sonic cleaners for your empty brass...
Finally been shooting enough with the centerfires to where I needed somthing to help with cleaning the empty brass casings. Did some comparison window shopping and wound up getting an ultra sonic cleaner instead of the more traditional vibratory cleaners using dry media. The ultra sonic cleaner does...

Five notches on the rifle stock...
In addition to leverguns, there's plethora of other types that show up at the gun range 100 yard bench. So the other day at the range, one of my range buddies had brought a couple of old surplus Mausers that he enjoys shooting. During a brief break on the bench, Joe showed me the five notches that w...
