Sir,
He measured the twist as closely as possible and came up with 1:14".
Thanks to all who replied, your responses have been passed on to my pal, and now its
up to him to work out a load.

Savage 99, .250 Savage loading questions
A buddy of mine recently picked up a gorgeous Savage, made around 1959 in .250 Savage with a 14" twist. He loaded some 75 gr bullets and they shot easily sub MOA. Then he tried the 87 grs and they went about 2", the 90 grs went around 2.5-3.5". I have read (again and again) that the l...

Winchester 1895 question
Question for those who been there, done that... Winchester 1895 has a damaged carrier screw, tried Buckinghams, Winchester Bobs, Sarco, Homestead, etc with no luck. Is there another screw from a Winchester rifle that is the same or is this screw specifically made for the 1895? Somewhere down the lin...

Re: Winchester 1895 Front Site Question
Thank you for your input. Will start researching the Beech site. My serial number range
is past 500,000 and I don't believe that Cody has any after that. Production date given
as 1915.
Thanks again for your wisdom,

Winchester 1895 Front Site Question
Hi All, Was cleaning my 1915 Win 1895 and noticed the front site flips from a post type (tall) to a lower small post. Anyone have any info on this? This is my first '95 and I am at a bit of a loss as I have never seen any descriptions of a flip front sight. It kind of reminds me of the flip rear sig...

Re: Winchester 95 parts found, and a question
Mike,
You're most welcome!
Maybe you can help me out here, I am looking for a sear spring screw (Sarco out) and have tried the
usual suspects ie) Wisners, Homestead, Winchester Bob with no luck. Do you have any sources??
thanks,
CaliRN

Re: Pics of my Win 1895
Thanks all for your comments.
I am going to keep this rifle the way it is, cuz it earned all the dents and dings.
May shoot cast bullets with it once I get the small missing parts replaced.
Thanks again gents,
CaliRN

Finally picked up the rifle, had a sunny day and batteries in my camera. Does anyone know why soft metal (lead) would be hammered into the stock like this? http://i572.photobucket.com/albums/ss165/CaliRN/GSG1895017.jpg Barrel Markings, .30 US 1903, stock damage http://i572.photobucket.com/albums/ss1...

Savage 99, .250-3000 Twist question
Hi All,
Buddy of mine just picked up a 99 in .250-3000 with a 14" twist.
He is curious when Savage quit making the 10" twist. His is 99%, manufactured somewhere
around 1959 and he got it for $700. And no, it is not for sale.
Thanks for your responses.

Re: New Member, Winchester 1895
Thanks All!
I hope that once I get the rifle out of gun jail that I can do a complete tear down and inspect
parts and report status, as well as some pictures. Cast bullets sounds really fun with this
rifle! Will have to break out the lubrisizer...

Re: New Member, Winchester 1895
Thank you all for your words.
I am still debating what exactly (if anything) to do to this rifle. I read an interesting article sent to
me by the folks at RareWinchesters.com which dealt with restoration, and the more I think about
this, the more I want to keep the dents and gouges.

Re: New Member, Winchester 1895
Thank you for the Welcome Sir, The top of the barrel is marked ".30 US '03" and some of the reading I did seems to indicate that this rifle was produced in this caliber, later to become the .30-06. Apparently the '06 neck is somewhat shorter than the '03, and some have stated that it is OK...
