I just got an original Winchester 71 and I'm wanting to put a peep sight on it. What sights would you recommend? I'm also curious if the original Winchesters and the various reissues used the same screw patterns on their receivers.

I'd say that's a high price to pay for brass, but it's hard to find stock for me. So you may be able to get cheaper brass from Winchester but who knows when it will be back on shelves.
