Nice gift. A Kodiak magnum was my first bow, back in '72ish. They are quite collectable now. It should be fine to shoot, they usually give you clues before they fail. I'd keep the hole about six inches in diameter - big enough to see through a scope or whatever. Remember your 'peripheral' vision is reduced, so a dog or kid running into the danger zone would not be as visible as without the 'muffler'. the "in" end is @ 16" , the "out" @ 9...

so, in trying to be a good neighbor, i built a version of sixes muffler. not as quiet as i thought, but still in development stage. used old seat covers and dog blankets for insulation [ need to get some pink stuff]. muffler3.JPG a little loose in the barrel, maybe? muffler4.JPG view down the chute....
