The Security Six is, indeed, a wonderful sixgun! The GP100 is not a better-quality revolver, but is less-expensive for Ruger for manufacture, than the double-action Sixes.Bill in Oregon wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2024 1:07 pm Rexter, glad you had that GP100!
I had the preceding Security Six and considered it a bank vault of a .357.

Re: I love old model Rugers
My favorite individual, specific handgun is my first early-Nineties GP100, 172-series serial number, bought new, soon after it was made. In factory trim, with the original-pattern grip, nothing fits my hand better, and nothing points better. The trigger is in the just-right place, throughout the DA ...

.45 Colt makes sense, in the places I am likely to be walking-about. At age 62, and becoming less fleet of foot, feral dogs are the major four-legged threat, and though the local feral hogs usually run, immediately, a home health care nurse was brutally killed by one or more feral hogs, in Chambers ...

I stopped wanting to shoot .38 Special through light-alloy-frame snub-guns about 20 years ago, in my early forties. The .32 H&R makes plenty of sense, to me, in a J-sized weapon. I happen to have, and like, the all-stainless S&W Model 631. We have hers-and-his 2” Models 631, sourced from the...

Re: Social use of the .30-30
My wife and I started our relationship, because of a pre-owned Winchester 94 .30-30 rifle. I was working a security gig at a pawn shop that actually specialized in jewelry, but had an FFL, and would deal in a few firearms. Two sisters walk into the place, with their dad. One of them saw the 94, and ...

Concealed carry, and social work? I use a Ruger Speed Six, or GP100, for that role. 2.75” and 4” Speed Sixes, and 3” and 4” in the case of the GP100. If smaller is necessary, the SP101 is wonderfully handy. I rarely use revolvers smaller than an SP101. My ultimate comfort gun, as in “comforting, rat...

Long-stroke DA is my least-perishable handgun triggering skill, which mattered all the more when trigger time became rare, as we needed to stay relatively isolated from folks, due to my wife’s increased vulnerability to COVID-19. My ideal choice can differ a bit from the practical choice. Plus, there is much to be said for a weapon that will nicely ...

Oh, to be 45 again! At 45, folks still thought I looked to be about 35. Then, at age 47, things started falling apart, and at age 55, someone in his mid-sixties guessed my age to be 65. That hurt! There is something so very “perfect” about the Ruger No. 1, in my opinion. Not only is the rifle, itself, is a thing of beauty, the No. 1 stock fits me superbly. Being left-eye-dominant, I love the way a No. 1 is beautifully ambidextrous. I will admit that the iconic photo of Frederick Courtenay Sel...

My wife is a ham with a Rossi '92 and a Marlin 1894CSS.
When I am off the clock, the last thing I want to do is mess with radios, as I wear a badge, and my life is ruled by a radio 40+ hours a week. I may get into this ham thing a bit after I retire.

If it has to be the same cartridge in each weapon, I reckon I will settle for my absolute favorite sixgun, my first GP100, early 1990s-era 4" stainless with adjustable sights, and pair it with a Rossi '92 I will borrow from my wife. While a GP100 may be a rather modern weapon, this one was my d...

I was a latecomer to SA sixguns, late 1990's, in my late 30's, after shooting autoloaders and DA sixguns since 1983, but with my USFA Single Action, something just clicked, no pun intended. It was as if there was no learning curve; I seemed to take naturally to the SA.

.357 lever rifle is my choice, of the three listed choices. The M1 Carbine is not a good lefty rifle, and the AR15 is just too vertical, with a non-intuitive (for me) safety lever. OTOH, a lever rifle works very well for me, and its slimness is a desirable trait. This does not mean I am stuck on lev...
