Or you could shorten the barrel to 16-1/4" and re crown the muzzle and have a super short Guide Gun. I like short guns so I could not help but mention that option.

308 MX problem
I have a problem with my Marlin 308MX. I loaned it to my brother and now he has killed two deer with it and doesn't want to give it back! He has hunted the last several years with a bolt gun in 270 and wanted to use something different. I loaned him the Marlin and it is now ALL that he hunts with. T...

OT - 41 mag load data
I am a looking for some load data for 250gr. WFNPB bullets to be shot in my 4-5/8" Blackhawk at around 900-1000 fps. I would really like data for use with Universal clays powder. Any ideas? I have looked at all my normal online sources and came up empty. Thanks, Goat

Impressions of a Savage 99A
I spent yesterday doing one of my most favorite things in life.....deer hunting. It was a horrible day with the moon so bright through the night and winds blowing 20-30 mph all day long. We are not used to winds like this and the deer stay bedded all day. BUT I spent my first day in the woods with m...

Savage 99 Question
I recently bought my first Savage 99. It is a late production 99A with a tang safety.Caliber is 250/3000. It shoots wonderfully well with most of the nine or ten loads tried going into 1-1/2".I have one load that is going well under an inch. The question has to do with an extraction. Sometimes ...

OT:Black bear hunting
I would really like to kill a bear but hardly know where to start. I do not know anyone in my neck of the woods that has taken one so I have no one to ask.I have grown to trust most of what I read here and respect the opinions of the posters. I have done some looking on the web and learned that Main...

Do I need a 22 mag if I have a 32/20?
I think I would like to have a 22magnum but since I already have a Marlin 1894CL in 32/20 I do not know what I would do with the 22mag that I do not do already with the 32/20 . My cast bullet load consists of a 115gr. laser-cast bullet and Universal Clays powder. It consistantly shoots well under an...

Re: Savage 99 NEED HELP FAST
I've gone and done it now. I won the auctionfor $795. It is a tang safety 99A in 250/3000 said to be 98%. I am a left handed shooter with no intrest in the lever safety guns and I wanted the straight stock and the 20 inch barrel. I think it was just a little too high but it was what I wanted and my ...

Sighting options for Marlin 1894C
I have a late 1980s vintage 1894C that needs a "better than factory sights" option. I love the way the gun handles so well without a scope that I hate to scope it. I normally do not even think about it and just mount a scope. Normally I would stick a low power straight tubed Leupold on it ...

Re: Tell me about BLRs in 358 Winchester
I have had a steel frame blr-81 for several years and would hate to know I had to get rid of it. I have taken between 15 and 20 deer with it and have never had to shoot one more than once. Most have fallen to the 200gr Hornady round nose bullet. A couple to 220 Speer flat points and the remainder to...

I use the latest Nosler manual max with IMR 4895 and the 225 Nosler Partition for 2375 fps from my BLR-81 and it shoots 1 1/4 @ 100 yds. I also use IMR 4064 with Hornady 200 round nose to get the same velocity but superb accuracy. Both of those bullets really let the wind out of white tail deer. Goat

Never really expected much response to this post but just had to share. My first gun was a Mossberg 183T bolt action 410 that I watched my Dad purchase at the local hardware store. That experience took place in 1978. I really was not all that excited since the gun is right handed and I shoot long gu...

OT - Won my first gunbroker auction
Bought a mossberg bolt action 20ga for a project gun. It will be used by my wife to squirrel hunt with and eventually by my children who are now only 2 and 3. I started all my hunting madness with a 410 Mossberg bolt action. Look where it has lead me now!!! Y'all have a good night, Goat

308 Marlin Express ?
Local gunshop has a Walnut/blue 308ME with most of a box of ammo and scope bases and rings for $400. I was about to buy a Henry 22 but now I may have to postpone that purchase and buy another Marlin levergun that I do not "need". So, once again I ask for your opinions. What do you think of...

My Shooting range is under water!
Just rode the ATV back behind the house to look at the backwater situation and found that the water is up to the top of my shooting bench. My house is safe as is the road out of here but many of the camps in the nearby WMA are going to get wet. Guess I'll have to shoot short range here in the yard u...

Boss was in a bind for $ to buy a new truck and mentioned he had a few guns to sell. I got a H&R single shot 45/70 that had never been fired with a cheap 3-9x 40 scope for $200. Not a steal but a decent buy. My home state of Louisiana is considering legislation that would make this a legal firea...

I have a Marlin Guide Gun in 45/70 with a Leupold 1-4x shotgun scope mounted in Millet steel rings in a traditional turn-in/dovetail front base and the windage adjustable rear base . I have lost confidence in the rear windage adjustable rear base. I believe that dual dovetail bases are much stronger...

I really do not know how this all began. It seems like such a short time ago that my favorite show was "Gunsmoke" and I wanted to be Matt Dillon. My early memories confirm a love of firearms because I always wore a cap pistol or was busy making my own wooden guns. Then I graduated to the &...
