Re: Longmire - Hollywood Ignorance
Gents, I'll admit, I'm hooked and am enjoying Season 2 while revisiting old Season 1 episodes. I love the TV series. It is so much better than what is out there right now. However, I got the first book from the Library, and have been buying the books ever since - I too laugh out loud at the author's...

Re: Longmire on A&E
FWIW - it's just a TV show, so I'm not looking for facts and authenticity. Remember, Hollywood produces this show. However, I'm very glad to see a show on Morals, the western history (Indians vs. Whites), and in this plastic gun day and age, a Sheriff who carries a 30-30 by hand and a 1911 w/ extra ...

Re: OT Just got my model 11
I have one from '47 - inherited it from my wife's grandfather.
It's a 12ga w/ polychoke machined onto the barrel - very nice.
He used it for everything from birds to ducks to deer. A handy all-around useful shotgun!
I like yours - a lot! Wouldn't mind a 16ga...

Re: OT - fishin's been great
I'm up the road from Bill O. He used to live close, now he's in Blue Ridge, GA - up near trophy trout waters here in GA! Built mine from a culm of Tonkin Cane, with him looking over his shoulder. When I met him, he hadn't done the Gun and Garden Premier Issue cover/story yet, filmed here in N. GA, w...

Re: OT..Best Vehicle you ever had....and gas prices
'98 Cherokee Sport. Not my first, but my BEST. First was a '45 Willy's MB. It will have a quarter of a million miles on it before the next oil change, and I just changed it. It's perfect. A plain ol' station wagon with REAL running gear and a torquey, growly straight six. Just enough. Won't do what...

Robbed the blonde from the cradle in 85. Bought the Wrangler new in 95. Somehow managed to hang on to both. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l308/mountaincreekphotos/Joyce95JeepWrangler-1.jpg My next "new" ride will likely be a Jeep, just not sure what flavor, perhaps a Willys! 8)...

I inherited a 1947 Remington Model 11 that looks new... and was used hard in the field, for birds, ducks, and deer.
The wood has some dings but the blue is nearly perfect...
Now, my 1898 .32 Colt New Pocket... that's another story! The metal is in the white!!

I liked how he showed the guns w/ the add-ons and tactical gear, and has a plain-jane .44mag trapper ae for his bed gun.
Can't beat the simplicity! Mine is a .30wcf 94 that I got cheap... not $100 cheap like he did, but not much north of that price...

Just watched an episode of Shooting Gallery w/ Michael Bane and he featured the Levergun as a home defense weapon! They went through a really cool warehouse called Swanson Tactical and demonstrated how you'd use the carbine to clear rooms, etc. Very cool! He did have one w/ picatinny rails, an Aimpo...

Re: Ruger 22LR Single Action
The best advice you got was the first post, that stated that most Single Sixes shoot .22lr well, but .22mag great - they're chambered for both (most are convertibles) and the .22lr suffers a bit due to this fact/feature. Some Single Sixes are dedicated .22lr and shoot them very well, better than the...

I 'spose we could send 'em to Bob Munden for building up for fanning, but I don't do it often either, and heck - it IS a $240 gun.
However, it is cool to see peoples faces when you blast out a cylinder full at warp speed... on target too!

Re: Ruger 22LR Single Action
Good point - no substitute for range time. On my '74 someone else did the hard work - it's broken in but not worn out. Don't think it ever will be. Stainless, so it's near indestructible. Now I need to get back out there and put some rounds down it - so *I* can learn now to shoot it better. It's min...

Re: Ruger 22LR Single Action
I paid $239 for a pre-billboard (early 70's) new model Single Six 5.5" stainless. Pre-billboard means no huge address/disclaimer message printed on the barrel. It's accurate enough for my eyes, which admittedly aren't great. But it's SO fun to take to the range and play with. For the cost of a ...

One movie I didn't like was 3:10 to Yuma, the modern remake. Ok movie, predicted the ending, but I didn't see it living up to the hype - everyone said I had t...

Re: OT - Open Range movie
You guys are right, I saw the levergun and thought of my Model 94 in the safe... He DID have quite a few shots in there, so it must have been a pistol caliber lever - right? ;-) Either way, I loved the ending - the double barrel shotgun, the part where he avenges the shooting of the boy (the broken-...

MOVIES - Open Range
Saw Open Range finally, tivo'd it and somehow my recorder screwed up and didn't get the ending - which was probably the best part. Went on youtube and found it in 3 or 4 sections. In a word, wow! Anybody else like this movie? I did notice the 30-30 and the single actions seemed to have a few extra b...
