Re: bear protection

Hey Bear 45/70, Yes sir, I do know how fast bears can move. I used to work with bear guides that used hounds and horses in the morning and they hunted over bait in the afternoons. Bears can lead a horseman and the hounds on a great chase. I have observed a few of those bears when the hounds got clos...

Re: bear protection

The best bear protection fire arm would be the same rifle or revolver that you would use if you were hunting bear. Stopping a bear in the off season requires no less ft/lbs of energy than stopping a bear when the season is open. Your weapon of choice needs to be in your hands, on your shoulder or on...

Re: oversized chambers with Marlin 1894 45 colt barrels

I have a Marlin 1894 Cowboy Limited in ,45 Colt. It has a 24" octagon barrel. If I use Remington or Winchester cases, I get a little smudging on the outside of the front of the cases. Using the same loads in Star-line cases, no smudging. The starline cases are heavier and so must be thicker. Le...

The Rugers are heavier or the Colts? Back when these Colts were in production, they were available in 4 5/8", 5 1/2" and 7 1/2".

I wonder how these .44 spcl Ruger Black Hawk revolvers would compare with my 3rd generation Colt New Frontier .44 spcl with 5 1/2" barrel.

Re: 9422 Magnum problem.

Hey Game Keeper, Back in the early 1980's I had a winchester 9422-M that was the same way. To get it to shoot center at 25 yards required taping the rear sight way to the left. Almost to the point of it falling off the left side of the barrel. When I bought it, it was new in the box and nothing was ...

Re: 375 JDJ vs 375/444 vs 375 Winchester

Hey camp cook, If you have your .375 wcf barrel re-chambered to .375 JDJ, for your contender, be extremely careful of the load data that you use. There is data out there for contenders only (that is what to use). There is data for Encores and bits and pieces of data for other (stronger) actions such...

Re: 375 JDJ vs 375/444 vs 375 Winchester

In retrospect: The Marlin lever action .308 marlin and the 99 savage in .300 savage or .308 wcf, or winchester model 88 in .308 wcf or .284 wcf when scoped and sighted in properly might possibly be stretched to 300 yards by a competent shooter. Re: 375 JDJ vs 375/444 vs 375 Winchester

I'm thinking that a 300 yard gun, realistically, should be either a bolt action or a single shot. Now, I know that hits can be made with lever actions at 300 yards because I have done so with several of my leverguns. However, I was shooting at steel silhouettes or large paper targets, not game anima...
