Wow! Am I slow, or what? I didn't grasp until just this minute that Olin is cashing (caching?) in on the "WSM" cartridge family name! <Smacks forehead>

Re: Lever ACtion AR???
This just proves that AR hysteria is truly about ...well, that's not pertinent, I guess.
If you want a lever gun that locks up and operates (in the bolt, carrier, and lockup sense) exactly like an AR, just buy a current BLR. They're nearly identical.

http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk62/Coloradoyaler/blrres.jpg NFG This is a 416 Ruger Wid West in Anchorage, AK, built. I talked with Brian, one of their gunsmiths, and he said they made a special tool for removing the barrels. Give them a cal. The last I talked with them they only charge $600 t...

Re: BROWNING BLR BARREL REMOVAL
No, they're in a barrel extension which the barrel screws into, just like on an AR.Tycer wrote:The lugs are part of the 81+ barrels.

Re: Short and fat or long and thin?
I shoot a 25 WSSM, so I read that section of load manuals, and articles on the cartridge, and so forth. The 25 WSSM is commonly remarked upon by ballistics labs to show extremely consistent pressures. That is a 'feature' of the short, fat powder column. I've also read German Salazar's accuracy compa...

Re: You motor cycle guys.........
I LOVE watching the Isle of Mann race! My Honda 600 isn't as fast as those liter bikes, I'm sure, but I think it'd be a hoot to ride that course! Funny thing about sport bikes (most street bikes, but I think sport bikes in particular); they get A LOT more stable as you speed up. Many of those funny ...

Re: Browning BLR question - What is a "Lightning"BLR?
Lightning BLR means aluminum receiver, at least initially. Currently, '81 BLR (or is it BLR '81?) Merely means straight-grip stock, vs the pistol grip which is simply called BLR. Again currently, ALL BLRs are aluminum receivers, and all have a bolt head that looks and locks up almost identically to ...

Re: Primer Prices
Last time I bought some, a little earlier this year, I paid $15.50/thousand. Had to add haz-mat, but I also bought some powder so even with that fee the net cost to have them on my bench was ~$17/thousand.

Re: Anyone ever converted a straight-stock BLR to a pistol grip?
Well, I'm not sure at this point what I'll do. I was out shooting some today. It's really quite warm. Ammo and rifle temps 'stabilized' under the metal awning at ~120F, despite air temp only being ~115F. At least there was a breeze most of the time, and the humidity is unseasonably low. You know, po...

Re: leather care question
I, too, use Lexol. The toughest-use leather I have at present is a heavy motorcycle jacket that I wear most days of the year. It's not an ancient jacket, however. The Lexol does not over-soften it, nor does it strip any finish in any way. The cleaner cleans it well, and the conditioner keeps it plia...

Anyone ever converted a straight-stock BLR to a pistol grip?
I really like BLRs. The much-less-common (around here, anyway) pistol grip models work for me a lot better than the straight-grip models, however. I'd like to get a take-down model, but they're very high-priced on places like GunBroker, and very nearly don't exist locally. Except... There's a (new) ...

What a beauty of a gun, KirkD! Congratulations! Was it truly made in 1889? It's in outstanding shape, and looks like a great shooter, too!

Re: Question For Browning BLR Owners
Thought I'd follow up again on this one. I removed the hammer and sear of my BLR and just polished the engagement surfaces thereof with a hard Arkansas stone (after thoroughly cleaning off all the gray/black factory grease). I did NOT alter any engagement angles. The results are terrific! The trigge...

Re: Question For Browning BLR Owners
I know this thread is old, but I wanted to add a couple things that may help those in the future looking for this info, since I recently (finally!) got my first BLR, and was looking for this or similar info. BenT's info regarding not needing to take out the bolt carrier or gears is correct. Removing...
