Barrel Band, Baby
Sorry if you’ve seen this elsewhere, I don’t know how much cross-pollination there is amongst the various forums. Been looking at Savage 1899/99 rifles for years but had too many other pressing interests. Lately, I have decided that I need one and it has to be a carbine. The SRCs and Barrel Bands ar...

Re: Recently acquired 1881 Marlin - modified
I appreciate all the great comments! I've got some black powder cartridges on order to give her a whirl (don't reload this yet) and will post a range report. Thanks again, great forum!

Recently acquired 1881 Marlin - modified
I know the value of this rifle (now carbine) has been significantly dimished but when I saw it, I had to have it. This M1881 in 40 cal that started life in 1885 as a 28 inch rifle but it now 20-inch short rifle. Whomever did the mod was a pro and based on the patina it was done a long time ago. The ...

Re: Question about Winchester 1907 .351
I appreciate the replies and advice to go to the Vintage Remingtons and other semis site. I guess my best bet is to look at as many of these as I can and keep looking for a copy of Henwood's book.

Question about Winchester 1907 .351
Saw one yesterday at a pawnshop and became enamored with it - this fits in with my anoying obsession with guns that that are chambered in really expensive and hard-to-find ammo. Anyway, there doesn't seem to be much info out there on the web and my library doesn't help one bit. Is there anybody who ...

Re: It ain't a levergun but it'll do
Mike - your dealer collects 14 1/2 carbines? How many does he have?
KK - again, I'm no expert but I think the DCP 44-40 carbines were used or to be used by the Royal Navy. Very desirable version of the 14 1/2. I think there is one on Gunbroker right now being offered for $1400.

Re: It ain't a levergun but it'll do
I appreciate all the kind words about my latest obsession. They are truly rare. This is the first 14 1/2 carbine that I've ever seen in person in 25 years of looking at gun shows, gun shops and pawn shops. Remington made something like 126,000 of all the Model 14s and 141 slide actions and I've seen...

It ain't a levergun but it'll do
I lucked into a Remington model 14 1/2 carbine made circa 1914 in caliber 38-40. They didn't make many of the 14 1/2 rifles and the 14 1/2 carbines are rarer than hens teeth. It's got an 18 1/2 inch barrel with an 8-round mag tube. It's slicker than you-know-what. It's not a levergun but it'll do. J...

Can the manufacture date of a Rossi M92 Puma be determined?
Just got an SRC without the top safety, serial no. K1008XX, imported by Interarms - only markings on the barrel has "38 spl-357 mag*"- upper tang marked "Amadeo Rossi S.A. - Made in Brazil" - left side has "Model 92 SRC" over Interarms over Alexandria, Virginia. I read ...
