Old Ironsights,
I've been around the old Winchesters for 40+ years and that gun scares me. Yea, with documentation and a close examination, will probably reveal its "right". Usually the deluxe guns were gifts for non shooting individuals or if they were shooters, the guns were not used as tools--therefore many high dollar guns saw little use and great care. Case colors usually dissappear with no handling, especially if they are exposed to ultra-violet light (sunlight).

Anyway, all pessimism aside, could you boys take up a collection so I can have that fine '73?

Boys, if you think about it, it's hardly more than a decent sport-ute, so why don't you just up and buy it. You can drive old beaters for the next 10 years. It's a way better way to spend your money. After 10 years, your sport-ute will be worth sweet tweet, but that '73 will probably be worth double. Only a crazy man would spend his money on a vehicle when he could buy that '73. At least, that's the way I see it. As for me, I'm a crazy man.

Kirk, You and I think alike. :D :D A hundred dollar hat, hundred dollar belt buckle, three hundred dollar boots and not a nickels worth of clothes in between. An old vehicle with 127K miles but.....................some of the finest Winchesters & Colts in the county. :D

There's a bunch of "lesser" Winnys on that site.

Heck, you could buy a cheap one for a mere $35K...

I am with you all the way Kirk you can have your money and play with it all at the same time, and when your dead wife and kids can sell'em all of and waste the money. Anyone that justs love looking at old Winchesters heaps on Cabela's from about fifteen hundred dollars up. I am there all the time and at Leroy Merz's site he has lots of goodies to but he 's a bit short on pictures but still I waste hours on both sites.

If I had the money to blow on a gun that cost 90% of what my current house cost, yes, I would shoot it.

Prolly wouldn't take it to the woods though.
