I do like 35s

Post by Tycer »

I started with a Taurus 65 .357. It's gone now, but it got me hooked on 35s.

Now I have j-frames, model 19 Smiths, Ruger SpeedSix, P3AT and my levers.

I hope to add a 35-30/30 barrel to my swap-barrel 94.

Bottom to top: Win 94 360 Dan Wesson Trapper, Rossi 92 357 Trapper, Win 94 Ranger 360 Dan Wesson Trapper, BLR 358 Win, BLR 358 Win.

Special thanks to Old Savage for hooking me up with the Ranger and to Thunder50 for loaning me the finish reamer to clean up the Ranger's chamber for the 360 Dan Wesson brass.

I forgot my Win 94 Big Bore 356 Win

I never shoot it. It's like new and stashed away. Funny.

180s run around 2000fps and 207s 1875 with the same pressures as 357.

I just did it because the throat on the Wins are way too long for even heavy 357s. I seat out to 1.825" without changing the chamber. I just cleaned it up a little with the reamer out at the end of the DW case mouth.

Neat Tycer. I like the .35 Rem and .357 pistol series (.38 Spec, .357 Mag and .357 Max).

I think that we just get an affinity for a particular cartridge aspect. E.g. I prefer the .45 Colt to the .44s. There's no real reason for it, it just "feels" better to me.

Yeah, I'm another .35 Junkie, these days of a thinner herd, I only have two .38's, and three .357 Magnums, one of them being my Rossi M-92 Social Rifle, and my .358 BLR.

For some odd reason, I've gotten to the point that the only rifle cartridges I really like are the .358 Win and .45-70 Gov't, and I seem to compare everything else to those two cartridges and generally find them wanting in some respect.

Hobie,

I'm the same way about the .44 SPL. No way I could insinuate there are any flies on the old .45 Long Colt, but it just does not strike my fancy as well as a .44.

I understand completely. It seems odd as logically there's no real reason to prefer one over the other. I think that mostly, the minimal advantages either has over the other are cancelled by their minimal relative disadvantages. Still, we develop a preference. I'm trying to figure it out, I used the .44 Mag (with .44 Special equivalent loads) with perfect satisfaction for many years before I had a .45 Colt... People sure are funny, aren't they?

Like Hobie, I'm partial to the 35 Remington and the 38 Special.

No real reason - nothing logical, anyway! :)

Though it can be argued that 35s make a bigger hole than 30s.

I blame Jim Taylor.

It is all his fault that so many folks have become .45 LC Fanatics. He is just too convincing a .45 Evangelist for most folks to resist. You really have to be a .44 Fanatic to resist his sermons.

I don't balme anyone for anything I have purchased !

I am however wishing Tycer would put a picture of a 360 Dan Wesson cartridge and a 357 MAG cartridge on here so i could see what they look like in comparison !

Did have a 357 MAX one time on a stainless steel Dan Wesson revover ! Another of those I regret getting rid of

As for 35's think I have a pair of Marlin's in 356 WIN , a pair of Marlin's in 357 MAG , four Marlin's in 35 REM and a Ruger 50th Anniversary Blackhawk in 357 .

But a 357/44 B&D or one of these 360 Dan Wesson's on a 1894 Marlin just might be the ticket

Wow, what a shock that a bunch of guys that like leverguns would also like 35's :D

Me too ;)

.357 Mag, 35 Rem and .356 Win - all in Marlins.

Nice bunch there Tycer - thanks for sharing the pics!

And what're the ballistics of the 35-30/30? There's one for sale on gunbroker right now - its actually a Marlin 93 action with new barrel...

Is this a rechamber of a 35 Remington barrel?

It's simply a necked up 30-30. The ballistics mirror the 35 Rem., although heavier bullets can be used due to the longer neck.

I want to have mine done with a 1:12 twist for the Lyman 3589 bullet 292 grains :o

1800 fps with a 300 grain bullet... pretty potent! Like a 375 Win.

It's amazing what can be done with the 30-30 case at standard 94 Winchester pressures.

I'm going to chamber a numrich 24" rifle front end kit for 30-30 Ackley Improved for my '72 Win 94 that has a bad barrel.

This improved 30-30 can propell a 150 grain bullet to 2500-2600 fps at normal 30-30 pressures. Basically a 300 Savage.

Haven't found a load for it yet. soooo....fair...5"@100yds as best.

To be honest, I've only tried 3, so no surprise that I've not found the load. I'll be using Juniors soup can 180s and Lil'Gun, but the 15 grain load shot poorly from it. I have not taken the time to work on it. Maybe soon.

That's me! I LOVE 44's and I went way past being a fanatic years and years ago!

I also enjoy the .35's. My wifes .357 Marlin, the .35 Rem, the .358 win, and .35 Whelen!
