Howdy.
I am new to this forum, and I have a question. I have heard that Winchester has been purchased and is back in business again. True? If so, has their going back into business had any impact on the values of earlier production rifles? My son has a Model 94 in 45 Colt, Trapper model I think, made in the 80's.
Thanks

I can't answer your question but I would like to ask you one, I don't mean to pry but where abouts in Arizona (my favorite place on the planet) do you live? North, South, East or West!

Welcome!
I have also heard that the 94's are coming back. I don't think that it will affect current prices much. They seem to have come back down to reasonable levels after the whirlwind following the initial closing.

Welcome.
The Model 70 is back and if MSRP is any indicator, they won't be inexpensive. The cheapest is $1k.

Welcome to the board!
In my humble opinion, they will probably cause a slight increase in value of the "pre 2008" winchesters

Cowboy1,
Welcome to the forum.
I have no idea what any new production (if it happens) 94 Winchesters will do to the marked of older ones.
I'm keeping the ones I have and as I can afford others I'll buy them.

Howdy, Welcome to the Forum.
In answer to your question, let me just say it's complicated, but simple. "Winchester" is simply a tradename. The Olin Corp., under Winchester Repeating Arms, which owns the name Winchester hasn't made any guns since the early '80s, when they sold their plant and a license to use the nane "Winchester" to US Repeating Arms, who in turn sold the plant to Fabrique Nationale in the early '90s. Both firms producing guns called Winchesters. In 2006, FN closed the old "Winchester" plant and ceased production of the 3 models made there, Mdl 70, 94 & 1300 shotgun.
Said closure and cessation of production caused a sharp spike in used prices, which seemed to have leveled out, or at least slowed. But, as with almost everything "collectible", a particular example's condition really determined its value. So, I'd guess that with reasonable care, your son's is certainly worth more than he paid, unless he bought at the height of the spike.
Now, FN has announced the resumption of Mdl 70 & 1300 production @ their SC plant, and it is rumored the Mdl 94 may resume in 2009. What THAT will do to values of older Mdl 94s is open for speculation.
Hope that wasn't too complicted an answer to an apparently simple quesion.
