Winchester 71,Browning 71

Post by big bear »

I am very fond of this mode you might say. I have a1951 production standard Win71, bluing worn, replaced buttstock (bought rifle for $500 because of condition). I hunt with this one and it's my camp/truck rifle. I get honest 3 shot 100yd groups with my hand loads. I also hunt with a standard Browning 71carbine, cost me only $400 because it has a small area of superficial pitting on the receiver. It is also very accurate.

Now my problem. I am retired. I have two Browning 71's High Grade , rifle and carbine, new in box.Gorgeous, never fired.7-8 thousand dollars sitting in the safe.

Any reason to keep them??? (Oh yeah, I have a Winchester Deluxe71, excellent shape, a1948Win71 with bolt peep and another short tang Win71 ,excellent condition.Like I said, I really like 71's.

This is a question for other lergun lovers also in the 4th quarter of the game.there ain't no no overtime last I checked ;).

I would keep the Winchesters and sell the Browning's, bank some of the money and maybe buy another gun you've alway wanted, or something else,
or restore your 71 standard truck gun.
Oh yeah
we need to see pics!
Always wanted a 71 and go moose hunting

I'd sell the Brownings except for your working carbine. Yum ... bolt peep. Hard to keep them fed these days without reloading. I've still got a couple of cases of factory 200gr silvertips on the shelf.
... I love poetry, long walks on the beach, and poking dead things with a stick.

Got an couple of cases of ammo too but the factory stuff is not as accurate as my reloads. Thanks to the 71 fever I caught on this forum way back ullein the day I laid back a lot of brass, bought every box of Hornady 348 bullets and got 20+ boxes of the BarnesX bullets. Those Barnes X bullets work great on black bears. So feeding them is never going to be an issue. Not to menton the hundres of cst bullets I have, plus 5 molds for casting more. Like I said , I REALLY like 71sw!

What picture posting site do folks like these days? I use to use Imgur but I can't get it to work anymore, they changed format.

Cheers (and Happy New Year to everyone, hopefully a year of Peace.)

My other problem is that the High Grade Brownings are so darn pretty. I have a browning 1886 High grade carbine I got cheap because of scratch on the stock and it shoots really nicely.

Sounds like you have a great collection of 71s. You can't take the guns or the money with you, I'd shoot and play with them all.
