I was in Fredricksburg yesterday and stopped in to see the new Cimarron guns

They have a new 92 modeled off of John Wayne’s carbine.

This one is done right with a slimmed down forearm and buttstock.

Very lively in the hands though it has a 20 inch barrel.

I dont know much about Cimarron. Are they well made and hold up? From my understanding, they are made by Uberti and shipped to America by Cimarron?

It's made by Chiappa in Italy, and so marked on barrel.

Cimarron imports from Uberti and Chiappa, and probably others.The Winchester Model 1887 lever-action shotguns come from China, but they hold the manufacturer to a much higher standard than those imported 20 years ago . I believe they insist on a a higher level of finish and QC than some of the other importers. I am a big fan of Cimarron.

The Chiappa 1892 is a near perfect clone to the Winchester Forged steel frame . But not cheap $1300 retail

Just wondering if the 'modeled after John Wayne's ' meant they were doing 44-40 or 38-40, I always hope more manufacturers would do more to resurrect the old -40 cartridges. Not that there is anything wrong with 45 Colt!

The thing wrong with 45Colt in a Winchester 92 is that it never was, and shouldn't be. My opinion of course. And Modeling a JW Carbine with a 20" barrel is just a regular ol carbine with a big loop. I love JW, but if your going to model a carbine after his, do it right, like the real one.

Chiappa branded calls it the Rio Bravo as it depicts the 1892 John Wayne used in the movie . Cimnaron calls same rifle the Cogburn . Both have the large loop Wayne toted in movies.

The originals he used were in 44 WCF and the one from Stagcoach was 32 WCF

Cimarron Firearms is Mike Harvey's and he is a stickler for making the guns like the originals. They are built for him by several companies including Pietta. John Taffin once wrote that Mike Harvey was responsible for authentic reproductions in a way no one else had been.

This .45 Colt is a Cimarron by Pietta. It is finished nicely inside and out.

Cimarron hammers are like the Colts where the standard Uberti's have a "safety" hammer. The laws require the guns coming into the country to have a safety and on these they went with a longer cylinder pin that can be pushed back to block the hammer. And with a little file work it can be turned into a normal cylinder pin.

The Cimarron/Uberti Old Model P has the normal hammer, often called 4 click. I dont know if its unique in the Uberti guns made for Cimarron, though i think the Pre-war model P has the safety type hammer.

I believe Wayne had several versions of his carbines, both 20" and shorter in various films. No telling how many actual examples existed as props and backups. His arms were long enough to spin cock a 20" carbine, but the shorter ones were a bit handier and had a presence onscreen.

Well dag nab it. I was in Fredricksburg last year for a cousin reunion/eclipse viewing. Can't believe the cousins didn't tell me we had Cimmaron there to visit!

I absolutely love my Chiappa '92 Mare's Leg takedown model, in 45 Colt! Lots of fun to shoot.

As far as appearance goes the Chiappa is the closest copy of the 1892 . All the details of the original are there. Little pricey though as you can get a shooter grade original for same money. But the modern steels in Chiappa make a stronger rifle and it's new .
