Welcome home. Just wait till you jump your first swamp rabbit there in Arkansas, there as big as Florida deer.
I was stationed there for three years in the early 80's, the whole State is filled with fine hunting and fishing.

Glad to have another gun nut in Arkansas. With help this state firearms people need to pull together to get our legislatures on the page we want them on. I think the only Republican senator is Mike Ross, over the Pope county area.
Again, welcome to the state. You a NCAA football fan?

Re: ARKANSAS!!!!!!!!!
Maybe someone can explain this to me. We call Kansas "cans butt" but we call Arkansas "ar can saw". Shouldn't it be "can saw" or "ar cans butt"?

Re: ARKANSAS!!!!!!!!!
Jeepnik,
You can keep your "cans butt" out of " Ar can saw".
Say Arkansas how ever you wish but if it isn't "Ar can saw" you will be wrong.

Yes, sounds great, but WHY? Just figured some folks from the two states might know.

Re: ARKANSAS!!!!!!!!!
Kansas was named for the Kansa indians. Pronounced CAN-ZUS, due to the Kansa indians pronouncing their tribal name CAN-ZUH. That is what I learned back in grade school out there in the southwest corner of Kansas where the Jackrabbits and tumbleweeds roam.

Re: ARKANSAS!!!!!!!!!
Jeepnik,
The term Arkansas means south wind and is derived from a name used by some Native Americans to describe the Quapaws, an early tribe in the area. The French Jesuits pronounced the tribe name Oo-gaq-pa, which the Algonquins pronounced Oo-ka-na-sa, and Marquette wrote Arkansoa; LaSalle wrote Arkensa; DeTonti, Arkancas; and LaHarpe, Arkansas. When the state was admitted to the Union in 1836, it was spelled Arkansas. The legislature of 1881 appointed a committee to ascertain the rightful pronunciation of the last syllable, and the result was a resolution declaring the pronunciation to be Ark-an-saw.

Re: ARKANSAS!!!!!!!!!
Quite a few Arkansans here isn't there? I'll be joining you in a few years. Right now I'm in Tennessee but I have 3.5 ac. on the South Fork of the Spring River where I will build one day at a little place called Saddle Ar. I also have a 60 ac. hunting property close to Williford. It's at the head of a little hollow with a year round stream and several good springs. Plenty of deer, turkey, squirrel etc. I love the Arkansas Ozarks. It is truly God's country. As for the Razorbacks, they are my favorite team in the SEC West, but overall my blood runs orange. GO VOLS!!!

Slimster - that's some nice country over that way in Fulton County. Glad you'll be joining us in a few years, ... and dont' worry about your "orange blood", as long as it isn't Burnt Orange!

Now see that's the type of answer I was looking for. One more bit of trivia stuck in my brain. It will become useful someday. Thanks BlackhawkBlackhawk wrote:Jeepnik,
