Cast Gascheck Bullet in .41 Magnum

Post by JimT »

A couple years back someone sent me some 208 gr. cast hollowpoint gascheck bullets for the .41 Magnum. I have lost track of whoever did that but I finally took them to the Range and tried them this morning. They proved to be a nice accurate bullet. I had them loaded over 15 gr. of 2400. The flyers in the groups were due to the loose nut that was holding the grip and was not the bullets fault.

The bore stayed nice and clean.

Back when I had a few Marlin 1894’s in 41 MAG I was eager to find gas check molds . At the time Lyman had one and at the times RCBS was making their 41 mold n a GC version , later they made it plain base . Anyway the gas checks were a bit difficult to get as well . Finally Gator checks became available problem solved but I’d kinda lost intrest by then .

Gator's "41BSS" check is what I put on my Accurate 200 grain bullet for popping buffalo (the steel type) to 600 yards with the 38/40 (40 mag in this configuration!). With the addition of the gas check this is no longer granddad's 38/40.
