coated bullet in a ROSSI 92 38/357 and 45colt/454

Post by oldebear1950 »

I have a question for all you reloaders. Can coated bullets be used in my two new Rossi model 92?
I have heard is not a good idea, especially for 357 mag, and 454 casull

Seemed to work ok in my .357 Rossi. See the thread on Bear Creek coated bullets.
"Oh bother", said Pooh, as he chambered another round.

Not a Rossi, but I have shot a thousand or more powder coated bullets in my Henry Big Boy in 357 mag without any issues. Also used PC bullets in my '73 Winchester in 44-40 and many other calibers.

I’m curious. What have you heard about potential problems with coated bullets in Rossi guns?

I don’t have any experience with coated bullets at all.

I cant see what it would be an issue, nor have I ever heard of such. I'd say load them up and have at it.

Well, maybe I'm lucky, but I've shot Acme, Missouri and at least one other brand of coated bullets I can't remember right now, but no issues I'm aware of. These were shot out of a Rossi 45 Colt and Rossi 357. I'm trying to remember how long I've shot them, but it's been more than five years and I've shot up multiple 250 and 500 packs.

I would be curious to know what the issues are.

I don't see much fowling or buildup and I am not what I would call a regular barrel scrubber, but I do clean them well when I clean them.

My wife shoots them out of her 357 Rossi also----she likes lipstick red and zombie green....HA!

I have a Rossi in .45 Colt, and I shoot mostly PC'd bullets in it. No leading, good accuracy... what's not to like?

I also shoot them in my Henry lever in .357 with zero issues....

I'd post pics of targets shot with it, but I don't use an image hosting site anymore, I just usually upload from my computer. I can't seem to figure out how to do that here....

piece of cake. grab an image from your files and drop it on the reply window. down below that window is the option to "place inline" which loads it at the cursor location
