Beech Trees facing a disease....

.
...but we need to just accept the fact that some things naturally cycle, and quit over-intervening.

Yes Doc, the beeches here are getting it for the past couple years.
Before the beeches it was the Ash and emerald ash bore- the ash is now almost extinct.
Before the ash was the hemlock and the wooly adelgid ( spelling) and they are gone.
A buddy of mine is a forester and he has mentioned 'sudden oak death ' which will make what the gypse moth did look like a walk in the park.
Oh and lets not forget about the lantern fly killing trees as well!

We had birch borers destroying ornamental birches in Oregon when I left there seven years ago. It's heartbreaking to lose such lovely trees.
And the native Oregon ashes were under assault as well.

...and, where did so many of the diseases/bugs/etc. that killed those trees come from?

Yeah, I'd heard of that.
On top of the beech bark disease we've already had for the last 10 or 15 years. That one came down from Canada. It doesn't kill the tree, but it doesn't produce beech nuts, so it may as well.
That in turn, doesn't help the deer (or anything else) population. Beech nuts are a huge part of their diet up here. Most of the state is undeveloped, with no human related food sources.

Guess we're lucky in these parts. Only things that bothers the native junipers hereabouts are chainsaws and fire.
