A few days ago we were talking about removing barrel markings

and being slightly bored this afternoon I figured it would be a good time to be in the shop ... so I took the Pietta 1851 Navy and removed the barrel markings. A little careful draw filing ... some time with various grit of sandpapering ... now a little time and shooting and the non-finish will match up.

Oh man, you are really tempting me now Jim!

I just wet-formed a Mexican double-loop holster to fit my Pietta reproduction "Griswold & Gunnison" percussion revolver, to look like the rig used by Anson Mount as Cullen Bohannon in the show "Hell on Wheels" (though the armor for the show was horrendous on his historical accuracy). I was looking at the Pietta markings and thinking about your recommendation. These pictures are really going to push me to do it!

Is it cool in your shop? Working in my garage in these triples, the sweat just drips off me. Could probably dab some on gun metal and give it instant patina!

Can’t blame you for that thinking Jim……you and I are used to seeing “Hartford, Ct.”……

Yea, ya done nice and don’t forget the Italian proof marks………degrease and slap on some rust blue acid, let it sit for a few days, then water and steel wool and that baby will look like it came outta Wild Bills belt….then degrease again, add on the acid but this time just boil for a minute or two instead of the normal 5-8 minutes……..let her sit and card off and you will have a 30-50% gun….

What you did was no different than getting rid of rust pits but you had deeper to go……looks easy but it’s not….well done Pops!—OO6
