A guy that works for me has been talking about guns for six months, he has never owned one a wanted a good all-around rifle. I steered him toward a marlin 30-30 which he bought.
Then after months of describing what to look for, what has collector value etc., he goes to a small town flea market and finds a 9422 for $300. The gun looks like new, I'm not sure it's ever been fired.
I think I'll kill him.
Ask to shoot it, then 'discover' some terrible and dangerous problem with it. Offer to trade him a BB gun for it, because you think you know a guy who could at least salvage it for parts...
. . . or - just encourage him to buy MORE stuff so he can join the ranks of our fellow lever-itis sufferers. If he's always that lucky maybe he'll sell you some of his 'rejects!'

You could do what MarlinMan93's friends do, scrounge off his leavings... Vall has got to be one of the luckiest "finders" of neat guns there is. Maybe your friend is one of those guys. Better than being a Typhoid Mary!
