What would this 42-wheeler truck be hauling...???

I see gasoline haulers with only 8 tires on the trailer, and I know water is heavier than gasoline, but when I saw a truck like this today I'm thinking are they hauling mercury or something...?
I'm sure it's not that but the only other heavy liquid I could think of would be maybe corn syrup...???

I'll bet that shudders and makes some noise trying to turn a corner, unless you can lift a bunch of the tires up.

Generally referred to as "centipedes", and you usually see them around the northern OH & MI areas as steel carriers. Syrup, milk or bulk oils is a very likely guess. They can only operate in areas with specific allowances for loaded weights up to 120 tons. Which you generally only find in and around the major auto making areas. I'm not even sure they're permitted down around Indianapolis... I don't see any hazmat placard holders on the trailer, so most likely it would be a food or food processing waste product/

Oh, and they're a major cause of rutting in the roads... Even in those areas that allow those types of weights, the simple amount of weight is more than most concrete roads can handle. And yes, concrete is compressible, few road departments can spend the kind of money it takes to properly build such roads... Thicker concrete ain't the answer. And asphalt? Laughable how soon it becomes just so deeply rutted as to be dangerous.

It was in Lafayette IN near a Subaru factory. Dairy farms and corn farms there too.
Photo is internet one but tank was same with 32 tires.
Must be heavy whatever it is.

Was there any sort of placard on it? Was it insulated? Could be molten sulfur, that's pretty heavy. Although they are usually smaller tanks to limit the load weight.

I didn't want to know what the big rigs were hauling on the highways in and out of Alamogordo after working with a couple of Air force retirees, one of them bomb dump and the other with the clearance to load nuclear weapons.

With a Chinese sounding name like "Ruan" on the side, it's probably is a secretly disguised ICBM they now store on one of their many farms in the midwest.

Your stereotypingness is slipping. Ruan has been around for decades. They're based somewhere in the midwest. I used to deal with their drivers regularly. Alway neat and professional, as were their rigs.

Wow - creepy - I can't imagine the potential toxicity/energy in a tanker full of bromine... We had that in high school chemistry, and since I was buddies with the teacher I got to 'play' with some, and it is very interesting when turned loose - all the reactiveness of chlorine gas only in a dense stinky liquid...
I always try to keep good clearance from big trucks, figuring they might have something in them that I wouldn't want to be in a puddle of if there were a collision...!

I remember some really heavy (and toxic) brines being used in oil well rehabilitation. Water weights about 8.33 lbs/gallon, some of the bromine brines weigh over 19 lbs/ gallon.

If you ever worked in a large hospital or attended any number of universities you were very close to large quantities of bromine. It’s used in industrial cooling systems with complete safety.
