Bug out lamps
Made a couple bug out lamps this morning, one uses lantern fuel and the big one a candle.
The top lifts up and swings to the side to light the tall one.

How does the little one work
Whatever you do always give 100%........... unless you are donating blood.
Re: Bug out lamps
Coiled wire that sits on the bottom then bends up with a copper tube soldered on the side and a wick through the tube.

Re: Bug out lamps
Thanks fellers, i like the tall one because it`s wind proof but candles burn up fast, the small one is sealed and preserves the fuel but has to have the lid off while burning so makes it more open for spills and fire.

Re: Bug out lamps
With a citronella candle, or citronella fuel in the smaller one, they could truly be bug out lamps.
For the smaller one, could you bring the wick through the lid using some parts for gas fittings, and use some type of metal cap for a lid? This wick is using olive oil in an altoids box. Just a couple of fittings I had lying around. The amount of light depends on the fuel and the amount of wick pulled out.

Re: Bug out lamps
Those make nice lamps but not very wind proof and i think the flame being in a glass container makes more light, like the old fashion lamps with the chimney when ya put the chimney on they get bright..

Re: Bug out lamps
It has been sitting around for a long time. I have thought about making a glass wind screen for the flame. It would need to be small and easily replaced. It was just a spur of the moment idea for something that would produce a small and controlled flame for a possible electric outage. Probably needs a larger wick for enough heat to boil water.

Re: Bug out lamps
Here`s a lamp Norma bought at the dollar store i haven`t even lit it but i`m sure it will make quite a flame.
My objective is to have something if using lantern fuel that seals tight so not to leak fuel.
The issue is it has to get enough air to keep burning so the lid has to be off, now if a person made one like mine with a bigger tub for a bigger wick then made a ring that could be screwed on the top with short legs sticking up then ya could set a pan on top of it .
I`ll have to experiment with that idea.
