I just looked it up. The World's rulers are now based on laser light. More easily measured and repeatable. Lasers rule the world.

hey, I have a laser "level". I prefer my granddad's plumb bob and an accurized bubble level . . . . I'd say a string with a square, in this context :)

Plumb bob. Haven't thought of one of these in years. I have one around here somewhere. They were invented by the Egyptians.
