....well maybe not, but we needed the meat.

My son says it was alone which this time of year means mother dead or off mating; either poor prognosis and our deer population is too high here, so he harvested it.

Should be nice and tender. I wouldn't say no to one like that.

Other side of the coin:

The ranch wildlife manager estimated this red deer cow/hind to weigh 300 pounds; almost as big as a cow elk. We have had many excellent meals from this beauty and still have a good deal of smoked sausage left. :)

My son normally how hunts deer, even though his first deer was taken at age 13 with a 44 Mag levergun. At some point he had a 44 Mag JSP fragment and destroy meat after going through a shoulder bone, SO if he can't use hardcast lead he won't hunt.

He has been out west and due to much longer ranges he uses a 308 Win, so he had copper solids for that and that is what he used.

Entrance wound he hadnt found when I talked to him last, and so I'm guessing the bullet tumbled cuz exit is huge and bullet like that should stay intact.

I'll stick with big slow bullets for my hunting around here.
