GRipmaker D E Collins

Does anyone know, or know about a D E Collins who is apparently in the UK? I keep getting emails from him with links to something. Supposedly he's a grip maker.
I'm paranoid about opening the link because I don't know this person.

Definitely not the same person.
But I'm sure at some time I have checked out the one in IN. (NOTE: I have been to the web site for the grip maker in IN. There lies my confusion.)
There may be the confusion. I'm pretty sure it's a scam/spam or something worse.

The email was sent, or so it says, from an I phone. So I'm really sure it's bogus.

Due to current circumstances, I won't be on this website as much, but I spotted your query. The above statements are spot-on - don't go to that site.

Various phishing algorithms now are so sophisticated that your interests are compiled through Google searches, your public Facebook entries, and other online activities. In some cases, your computer may have been explored by some unknown virus for the same type of information; but it is not necessary anymore for the malware to get that info from inside your box.

Then, these results are sorted and matched up to phony addresses of legitimate businesses within your range of interests using an existing business name as part - the beginning - of a website that then directs you to a link that is infested with malware. The tip-off (usually) is that the tail end of the e-mail address does not match up. But even that is not always the case! Addresses can be "spoofed" and are hard to discover as phony in some cases.

So - sending a separate e-mail to a verified address link or making a phone call to that company is the best way to determine if they sent you something.

You were wise in spotting the irregularity of the address. And, yes, these days I never, ever click on a commercial link that I have not asked for, unless it is a known online magazine subscription (e.g. Gun-Tests.com, Handloader mag, NRA's American Rifleman) that I have paid for. Or other situations where I initiated contact with known legitimate businesses.

Griff's comment about the unlikely British gripmaker was a good one, too. And Lassiter's advice to "listen to the little voice in the back of your mind" rings true - at least to those of us who think!

A related matter: Individual hacking attacks from foreign websites and telephone frauds are not subject to our Secret Service's investigation in most cases, due to the limit of their jurisdiction (unless it's a national security matter). The fraudulent phone calls from a heavily accented "Windows" representative to "fix your virus," for instance, is done with impunity because our government can do nothing about this scam from a foreign country. I have tried to turn them in, but it is to no avail - and they know it.
