Do any of you use Paypal?

Post by Fisher-Price »

Hi all,

I do not have a paypal account. I have been asked if I accept this. Pros/Cons. I have one or two more items to list but that looks like about all I have to sell. Is it worth it for these dozen or so items?

I have been cleaning off the reloading bench and have several sights and dies that I do not need in the classifieds.

Thanks,

Fisher-Price

FWIW, I've long refused to line the pockets of my enemies with $$$ - PayPal & it's parent company E-Bay are run by anti-gunner's.

There are several other options for pro-gun enthusiasts: https://www.cardpaymentoptions.com/cred ... providers/

I take a certain satisfaction buying and selling firearms related stuff with Paypal -- but I did quite wearing Levis.

You're only other options are a USPS money order - and the postal service isn't exactly gun friendly in case any one has forgotten - or to take a personal check and wait for it to clear - and gee, most banks aren't exactly gun friendly either, though they at least can argue that they are only staying clear of the DOJ's policy of gun control through administrative intimidation.

In short, go ahead and take paypal. Keep it discreet though. You need not link the paypal account to your bank account, you can make your sales and make a transfer to your bank account and then delete the account info from paypal if it makes you feel any better. They limit you to $500 per month transferring out, or something like that, unless you "upgrade" - ie give them money. Like any other service they exist to make money, so they discourage you from moving your money out of their account (they would make 3% on the sellers end of a purchase if you kept it there and used it).

Yeah, their gun policy sucks, but so does everyone else's. The rest of them just don't know what you're doing with that PMO or check, paypal's policy just comes from a history of having that info until people wised up about it.

Ebay and Paypal split off in 2004. Both are independent NASDAQ listed companies, PYPL and EBAY.

I avoid doing business with either if possible.

I have a paypal account, and only use it if I have to. I wont accept payment by paypal though, as I don't like paying them a piece of any sale I do.

I have used the various "anti-gun" groups mentioned here. But when I buy or ship guns, ammo, etc., I don't advertise the fact. Just like when I buy skivvies from J.C. Penny, "underwear" does not appear anywhere. I get a laugh when I buy thought these "anti-gun" folks; they are facilitating my gun related hobbies...

Really................... USPS has been very friendly for me, for mailing long guns - especially after the 1st time I get any pushback.

If I get any pushback, I just show the local Postmaster their own USPS Regulations ( I take along a copy of the pertinent USPS firearms rules, in case the Postmaster "can't find" them ).

(The rules lesson usually needs repeating @ each new/different USPO, though)

The primary rule I observe, when mailing a long gun, is: "even a fish can stay out of trouble, if it would only keep it's big mouth SHUT". . ;)

There's no legal obligation to discuss a parcel's contents, except to honestly answer the PO Clerk's 5 mandatory (for the clerk) mailability questions (i.e., are the contents explosive, flammable, poisonous, liquid, or fragile ? )

I've had no negative issues with PayPal in over ten years of use. They've even clawed back money from sketchy sellers. Combined buying and selling I have over 1000 transactions.

There is no easy alternative to PayPal for taking online payments. There's more pertinent 2a battles for me to fight. You anti-Paypal-ers can fight that battle if you want.
Kind regards,

Only positive issues with PayPal. Your purchases are protected and you don't need Lifelock or any other scam company to protect you.

I've never used PayPal, debit cards or credit cards in my 61 years of living. I use cash and money orders. I will not be part of modernized indentured servitude, which credit cards are. I hear PayPal is very convenient along with credit cards but I just will not subscribe.

Although I have worked since I was about 10 years old, no one or any banking institution will force me to work.......which credit cards do. It's called freedom.

One thing for sure......it's a lot mentally easier handing the clerk a piece of plastic than it is to hand over a Ben Franklin. How many times have we all been in a nasty or sorrowful mood and decided to buy something to cheer ourselves up? Go back to what I said after "one thing for sure". It's how I stay out of debt.

Same here! I have no issues with Paypal. Sure they charge 3%, big deal, it won't break my budget or matter a whit on a sale.

I move a lot of once fired brass and usually require PP for payment. I get a good share of my 3% back when I use them to print shipping labels, $1.50 a pop discount on a medium flat rate box over buying the labels through USPS.

If I didn't deal with businesses that are anti-2a there are times I would have to do without.

Glad that works for you Pete, but it didn't work for me! I had issues with an antique they refused to accept. Called the central office, and a nice man gave me the reg to look up and print out. Took it back and showed the station, and they still refused. Called the central office again, and the nice man told me to go to a different station, and NOT tell them what I was shipping. Ever since then I just don't tell them, and all goes well.

Paypal has been known for freezing accounts, tying up your money for months. They were doing this early to gun related sales. That was a few years back so the policies may have changed but We don't use them.

I'm dense I guess. How do credit cards or banks force you to work? DEBT forces you to work, but I must be missing something about banks, credit cards, and paypal?

Stubbicatt,
Perhaps I should have been more definitive in my explanation. Credit cards force about "95%" of people to work "excessively" as they cannot control their spending. I see it everyday at work.....guys working weekends and daily 10-14 hour shifts. They all ask me how I manage on a 40 hour paycheck......

I tell them it's easy....I don't have any credit cards.

Have not owed anybody a dime since I was 40....and I retire next month------6

I use PayPal a lot. In fact I prefer to use it. According to security sources they are safer than a bank. I have not heard any reports of them freezing accounts for anything firearms related. I'm pretty sure that was the old eBay. eBay has apparently had an economical epiphany and allows any and all firearms related parts and accessories and whoever the politically motivated anti gun commies were running the place have either left or been shut down. My brother just bought an AR15 barrel off eBay. You can find any tactical accessory there is on eBay. I for one encourage reinforcing their behavior by purchasing firearms related items from sellers there. I particularly like the ability to print labels and pay the shipping when I recieve payment. And when buying I look for free shipping. Both eBay and PayPal have come a long way.

I use it all the time. Have had very few problems but those I had were mostly errors on the sender's part and in a couple of times, I made the error on the sending.
