Found a beautiful Savage 1899 take down 250-3000

Post by Mossyoak1957 »

I don't usually buy guns from Cabelas this was in the gun library I fell in love with it today and most likely paid a little to much. The rifle is like it just came from the factory, not one mark on it.

Wow, that's sweet!!!

You didn't pay "too much" -- you just "bought it a decade early"...

And 10 years from now, that price will seem like a bargain!

Good luck!

Oh, and that rear Lyman tang sight that's adjustable for windage is easily worth $200 or so, so deduct that from the final price too.

Tight groups.

Old No7 beat me to it on that Lyman, great sight for a fine rifle! The issue rear sight is interesting too. Do you know when it was made?

That is super fine!

.

I'd say that you've gotten the Holy Grail of Savage 1899/99's - CONGRATS ! !

I've been eye-balling a very lightweight .303 Savage myself, in a Cabela's used gun rack, outside the big $$$$ gun library's doors.

That is SOooo nice.
I once, no twice owned a 99F in 250 so I know how sweetly it shoots. Mine was not a take-down, nowhere near the condition of yours and didn't have that Lyman sight yet I loved it.

Well Cabelas had a one day 10 percent off guns in the library so with tax and all the other fees it was $1200. I really didn't think that was all that high considering some of the nice later 99's are going for $700 to$900

Not sure what would be too much for that but $1200 wasn't.

Great snag. You could easily make your money back and then some from any Savage collector. Enjoy your new rifle and shoot it.

I think You did real Good on that one. Pay the Money and Cry only Once. If We could buy New 99's that had the quality of the old ones for that price I know a whole bunch of people who would be lined up. Enjoy.

For those in New England who want something very close to that one, Kittery Trading Post has a nice takedown Savage 99 in 250-3000 -- with a Lyman tang sight (but not a windage adjustable version) -- for $1,195.

But it's clearly been refinished and is not original.............

Based on that, I'd say Mossyoal1957 did well on his.

Tight groups.
