I recently shared an article on this topic written many years ago when the main mold makers were Lyman, NEI and RCBS.
Now we have NOE, Accurate, Mountain Molds and many others giving us endless choices in bullet designs for the .30-30.
If, as Frank Marshall opines in that article for the Cast Bullet Association Journal, the holy grail is to deliver a blunt-nosed bullet of proper alloy at .303 Savage velocities of 1900-1950, what would be your idea of the perfect boolit, gas checked and weighing 185-200 grains?
This one's pretty close:

Ideal cast bullet for .30 WCF and big game?

This is what I use, and I think it would be hard to beat. I haven't had any on game experience with it yet though.

Personally I would go with
http://www.accuratemolds.com/bullet_det ... 190R-D.png
but with at least a .20" meplat.
The 190-D has a longer bore riding nose that could be a problem in chambering if the bore diameter of your rifle is even just a bit smaller.
After Frank had written that article, one of the mold companys either NEI or Old West or? came out with the BOWM (Bench Or Woods Marshall) bullet design. It was a blunt nose 190 gr g.c. bullet.
Another good bullet is the 180 RCBS. In w.w. it weighs 190 grs. and is a great bullet in my 30-30's.

I use the ranch dog 165 grainers also. I have used the lee 170's also with good results.

For a standard weight bullet I like the Ranch Dog designs, he has one for Marlin throats and one for Winchesters. My 94 AE will not handle the original design seated in the crimp groove, the ogive gets jammed into throat.
For a heavyweight I prefer the RCBS 180 FN, casts about 194gr in my alloy from a NOE facsimile.

Later Ranch Dog design which works in my AE

Re: Ideal cast bullet for .30 WCF and big game?
Actually, it's the only .30-30 mold I have, but have had great success with the Saeco #316 mold. It's throws a 150gr GCFP that works well in all of my Winchester 94s, especially the one with the Numrich heavy octagon barrel on it. Sized to .309 & lubed with Lyman Alox, I've shot ¾" groups at 100 yards with that rifle. And, close to that with nearly every .30WCF I have, and although I've not used it on game, I have every confidence with it using my 6:1 alloy (WW:Linotype).
I don't necessarily think I'd use it for game larger than whitetails... but it's accuracy sure makes me confident of it's abilities.
