30-30 Still Works :-)

Post by cshold »

Doe at 0700 hrs. this morning.
A group of 6 passing through at about 35 yards.
Took the lead Doe.
Used my 1961 Winchester Model 94 30-30 with USA made vintage Weaver 3X scope.
One Remington 170 grain Core-Lokt. Deer went 15 yards & crashed.

Hmmm. That must not be one of the "new age" deer that will absorb a .300 Weatherby Magnum and walk away.

I've seen premium bullets from powerful calibers go right through deer without opening up......

Nice deer, but that 30-30 is no 38WCF! We will have to wait until next year now! I am guilty of the same offense.
My old friend says if you tap the Cor-lokts tips against the receiver and flatten them a little, they really let the deer down. Looks like it wasn't needed!

My son's favorite loads for my 788, every deer he's killed fell to one of those.

My problem is to many toys to choose from. (Not a real problem  )
I like to give them each a day in the woods to enjoy.
Ya just never know what day the Deer will show up, if at all :)

CS, I understand. I have 3 generations of deer rifles and only two rifle tags. Last year I let the 32 Special out and it worked well also.
Your 61 is a fine looking rifle, it deserves some use.
