Did you take Ag in High School?
Conversation on another thread reminded me of this humorous story of my High School days:
When I was a High School freshman I had to sign up for classes. My Dad, being a farm worker, though I should sign up for an Ag program, which I dutifully did. A few days into it, I found out we had to sign up for FFA to be in the Ag program, so I signed up for that. Next day was FFA initiation, which involved having to bite the balls off a sheep. Nope, not gonna do that.
Went to counseling office and signed up for College Prep program. Dad was upset, Mom was overjoyed. College Prep classes served me well later on in many ways, I don't think biting the balls off a sheep would have helped at all.

Lassiter, are there some castrated sheep in Faulkner County?
Jerry I would say you made a good choice.

Funny story.
Wonder if that college freshman that shot 4 has a similar story. WTH makes a college kid do that goofy stuff?

I doubt it, NAU doesn't do Ag. They were big in Forestry but now it's, ahem, "Forest Health and Ecology" rather than Ag related forestry.2571 wrote:Funny story.

Given that the victims were all from the same frat, and the perp was a freshman, it screams revenge for hazing.... oh yeah, frats don't haze any more

Yep, Jr and SR years, but there was no nonsense about hazing.
I raised pigs both years and was president of the FFA chapter.
It was a good experience, but I was a techie and went on to UT in Math and Physics and then on to computers and software. Irony? Now I live on a horse farm and have a tractor!!! Do not raise pigs, but love to shoot them!

I know that I'm reading between the lines, but this is some kinda 'deep seated' aggression...
That, or maybe you just enjoy fresh pork.
Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.
History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

Yeah I was in AG class and FFA. 4-H as a kid too. Forgot what "AG" initials actually stood for. Our teacher was a brother of Lile Blackbourn the head coach for the Green Bay Packers at the time.
I also was a member of our high school Conservation Club. My school sent me and a friend to a state ran Conservation camp called "Trees for tomorrow" near Eagle River Wisconsin. We both went on and worked for the state conservation dept. He made it a career, I didn't. After that I did a couple years in several National Parks. Drifted out of that too. I went to high school in Berlin Wisconsin and that is in the bullseye of farming country. After high school I went a couple years to a tech school (not college) for forestry and conservation. My friend ended up a top state warden etc.

I took high school FFA, I was even elected President my senior year. I wasn't a very good president though. But I did learn quite a few practical skills that have served me well over the years, like electrical wiring, and laying out a rafter, welding, wood working, etc.

Fred said " Do not raise pigs, but love to shoot them! "
mmm? Fred may be right on both counts: I do like pork and would rather shoot them than buy it at the grocery store.
On the other hand, I also like to shoot and eat deer, antelope, bison, game birds, and some critters that are not so edible. Maybe I just like gun and shooting things.
