In The Bush Today (Sunday May 3, 2015)

Post by JimT »

We headed into the bush to visit a poor community that has been having a hard time. It has been raining and it was 4WD all the way. The truck ahead of us in the photos eventually slid sideways and got stuck in a really bad spot. They had plenty of help so we eased past them and kept going.

We drove through a ranch that really brought memories of Arizona back to me. I grew up on these kinds of places. This ranch raises Brahama's ... about the only cow that can survive the heat and the dry season here. Even at that, by the end of the dry season you can just about see through them.

The motorbikes are typically 49cc. Anything under 50cc you don't need to go through the hassle and the cost of getting a license. You just buy a permit to ride the thing. Most can't afford much and so the smaller bikes make do. Plus they do not use much fuel. Gasoline is a bit more than $7.05 a gallon here.

The brands typically are chinese manufacture. LIFO is popular.
