Second attempt at knife making

Post by Mossyoak1957 »

This is my second attempt at knife making,it's getting better.Made the blade from an old circular saw blade, heat treated it and buffed it with my table top buffer....The brass is made from a brass washer and buffed...Belt sanded the antler and buffed it.... Wrapped the end with a piece of deer skin and wax string.

Good job. Looks like a great grip.

Now, that is looking pretty good. Every one gets a little better than the one before. I am getting back into the hobby myself. For the last two or three weeks I have been building a 2X72" belt sander for knife making. I have it almost completed now, just waiting on a reamer and some steel.
In a week or so I will post pictures of it and a couple knifes in a new thread. The grinder build has been as much fun as making the knifes. I am thinking of building a 2X45 also for finish work. You can split the belts and run them as 1" wide and slack belt polish surfaces.

Back in the 70's my old boss found a box full of brand spankin new drag saw blades. I tried to talk him out of one to cut up for knife blades :| but he already had them sold. After thinking about it, I decided to destroy them for knife stock would have been like using a rare oil painting to start the fire in the wood stove.
