I use these for Safari. Pages open faster with AdBlock and videos don't start unless you tell them to.

I use Adblock on Firefox. Works great. On some sites I have to turn it off temporarily or their videos won't play (CBS, Fox, ABC...anything I'm trying to watch a missed episode )

another way to do it is to modify the hosts file. just hosts, no extension.

like this:
127.0.0.1 008i.com
127.0.0.1 myspace.com
127.0.0.1 00fun.com
127.0.0.1 00fun.com #[Tracking.Cookie]
127.0.0.1 00hq.com
127.0.0.1 00inkjets.com
127.0.0.1 00z70az77mnsa-00swj1zzprh.com
127.0.0.1 011707160008.c.mystat-in.net
127.0.0.1 0190-dialer.com
long lists of this file exist in the wild, and it works as well in windows as unix or mac or linux.... not certain about mac.

what it does, is, when 00inkjets.com tries to hook up to your browser, the ip protocol sends the request to that address, 127.0.0.1, which is a machine address that won't respond to the request. it goes into a dead-letter black hole.

this avoids putting yet another piece of software on the mach.
