Marlin 336CT ???

Post by Noah Zark »

No pix yet, later tonight, K?

I did a trade last evening, giving a well-used Remington Model 11 shotgun for a Marlin "336CT" with a straight grip, 18.5" barrel, full magazine, carbine sight arrangement, and press-"checkering" on the hardwood stock. It's checkering with some little hunting-related images like a buck's head and whatnot on the forearm and grip areas. It's also wearing a Marlin-badged 4X scope "Made in Japan" that has duplex crosshairs.

It's seen little use, but cosmetically it's been around the block in the pickup bed, as it were. I traded because I like straight-gripped levers with shorter barrels, and with a little judicious blasting and PTFE/MoS2 resin coating, the metalwork will be just fine. The furniture will probably end up being scraped down with cabinet scrapers, enough such that the imaging is gone. I was in the mood for a levergun project, and this one fits the bill.

All that said, I've never come across the "CT" version of the 336. 336C and 336T, sure, but not a 336CT.

Anyone have any 411 on this thing?

Does it look like this? I bought this Glenfield 30GT at the Western Auto Store in Lusk, Wyoming back in 1979.

Dat's zit, TR. Identical, if your Glenfield GT has 18.5" tubes.

Thanks,

I looked at the rollmarking on mine again, and it says Marlin 336 alright, but the "C" might be a "G". I'm confoosed.

No matter; stopped by the range this evening and put 12 170 gr factory Corelokts through it and they all hit the same spot on the 100 yd berm. I'm happy.

Probably "GT" for "Glenfield Texan" Anyway its a nice score. :D

If thats a normal sized forend I might leave the factory wood alone & get another set to customize. Probly take a long time but it might be collectable someday or worth something to someone.

Lucky Dog! I have never found a GT. I recently found (and bought) a 30TK and a '71 Texan.

This Glenfield 30GT will shoot quite well when I do my part.

Barrel length is 18.5 inches.

A local Smith told me this about my carbine:
- 30 stands for 30-30
- G stands for Glenfield
- T stands for Texan
- stock is beech

Good hunting to you.

This is a photo of me and a nice muley taken in rough country. The animal was cut into pieces to remove for the long hike out. It was 4 below zero that morning.

30-30 is a KEEPER !
