Recycled Vaquero Holster

Post by Mossyoak1957 »

Been looking for a holster for my new Ruger Vaguero Montado .45Colt with a 3.75 inch barrel and and 3.75 inch holsters are not that popular and I remembered I had picked up a old holster years ago at a gun show(think it was 5 bucks) to hang on the wall for decoration and never did, so I dug it out and went to work on it and ended up with this................Fits like a glove

Attach that to a belt so that it rides where the top of the handle is about even with the bottom of your regular belt, or even a little higher, and you will have a holster and gun combo that would work well on horseback. That is a nice looking holster. I have a couple of different types of holsters, even a gunfighter style one, and find that the lower they hang, the more they get in your way when you are doing anything other than standing around. Little Joe wore a useless holster rig for anything but gunfights in the street at high noon, but John Wayne usually had one that was useful for most purposes.

Those Mexican Loop holsters are very traditional and a good working rig.
The Mantado is a SWEET little gun. I have a pair of them.
Good job!!!

That has the Simco saddle flower stamp on it. Might be a simco holster. Bona Allen has 6 petals and Simco has 8 petals.

Nicely done and a good re-purposing.

If I found holsters like that at a gun show, I would have left with a bag of them.
