When we lost our little dog at Thanksgiving we felt the same way. The house was WAAAAAY too quiet without him getting into things and doing whatever. We went and found another and while he will never replace Buddy.......the new dog, Blue, was adopted and is becoming more and more part of the family.

9 years ago we lost Ben (Yorkie). The house was not the same without him. Several months later we had two new Yorkie pups running around here. A couple months ago we got a third from a lady in Yakima who could no longer keep him. We now have a larger family and having that much more fun and love in the house.

Go get your new friend before he is gone.

Good on you Blaine. Rescued dogs are the best. We got our catahoula 12 years ago from the N.O.A.H. shelter just north of Stanwood.

In my experience, dog shelters have the best "mutts".

Healthy, and able to get on with other dogs.

We have had 2 shelter dogs and 2 give away dogs, and 1 purebred that we purchased. We also had a purebred that we purchased and couldn't keep due to his attacking the kids. The shelter dogs and the give away dogs have been the best friends that anyone could possibly ask for. Puppies do sometimes need training, but the shelter dog that we adopted when she was about a year old, give or take a little, did not need house broken, and she is the most loving dog you could ask for. She does fight over food, but that is because she was a stray and had to learn to kill her own meals. She keeps the squirrels out of the yard. If they come in, they rarely leave.

Go and see if you can take the shelter dog home for a weekend trial period. You might find a new chapter in your life with more stories. You don't know until you turn the page. We opened a new chapter after our oldest dog died, and the new chapter is different, but it has been well worth it.

So, Mr. BlaineG, did you go get the dog???? Inquiring minds want to know?
I'd take him if he was in my hometown.

Good job Blaine. I'm sitting here looking at my three "mutts", two from a shelter and a stay that just showed up at a friends that I adopted, my three best friends. They're all friendly, loving dogs, great with all the kids...but it would be a very big mistake for a stranger to lay hands on any of my family with the dogs handy.

Several years ago I suffered with a bout of walking pneumonia and in the middle of the night had a coughing spasm that resulted in me passing out. The next thing I knew I had three 65-85 lb dogs in the bed with me whining, licking my face and nudging me. They sensed something wrong and had torn down a 4' high barrier that kept them in the wash room at the rear of the house and came running. They slept on the bed with me until I was well.

"Mutts" are the best.

Those eyes say he's been waiting for you. That's great for both of you. The last time I lost a dog I didn't even pick up the dog toys. I had a new buddy the next morning. I will never be without a dog.
