Hammerless lever combo
Rugger 44 MAG & Savage .308 share many common features.

The Savage .308 is quite useful. Best accurasy from 125 grain Sierra at near max powder loading. Hits hard too - knocks antelope right over. But plain 180 grain pointed soft tip ammo by Remington shoots into a 2 inch circle at 100 yards when I do my part. This is my first choice rifle for elk hunting. I've toppled a number elk (both bulls and cows) with this effective rifle/ammo combo.
The Ruger 44MAG is limited by distance. But I tagged a nice hybrid buck (muley + whitetail) still hunting along the Grande River bottoms in Perkins County. Mostly I use the Ruger to hunt porcupines at night with 44 Special ammo.

Nice combo there! I have thought about trying to get the Ruger converted to 45 Colt. I have a similar looking 99 and it has become one of my favorite rifles. It happens to prefer 165gr bullets, but regardless of brand or reload recipe it keeps them around an inch at 100 yards. It's funny how each 99 I have know has a specific preference for bullet weights and I wonder why? Hmmmmm a 45 Colt Ruger lever..........
